Dear WSMS Parents and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe that we are almost to the end of January.  My, how time flies! This has been a much better week from the perspective of COVID which is another huge blessing for our campus and our community.

Please continue to let us know if your student has tested positive for COVID-19. This will help us make sure that we alert teachers and parents of cases on campus. Also, if your student has to remain home, they should be able to keep up with their school work via Google Classroom.

During this week’s principal message to our students, we revisited our campus cell phone policy.  Here at Willow Springs, we understand the huge amount of screen time that our students naturally get through doing school work online and communicating with friends and family during the evenings and weekends.  We feel like it is important to foster an environment of face to face communication at school so that students can manage those skills later on as a young adult.  This is why we ask that students keep their cell phones turned off and in their backpacks while at school.  We reminded the students that if their phone is out that it will be taken up and sent to the office.  Thank you for your support on our policies and procedures here at Willow Springs.

"Stop The Bleed" Student Training In The Spring
We had such an amazing response to this in the Fall, that we are bringing it back for the Spring. If your student was unable to attend one of the previous sessions, make sure you sign up soon.

This program is a difference maker and will allow students to possess a critical skill set that can be carried with them throughout their entire lives. Stop The Bleed training allows students to learn how to administer initial care in a life threatening situation to an injured individual.

Although this training is not mandatory for our students, we are required by state law (86RHB496) to offer it to all students in grade levels 7-12. If you choose to sign your child up for this free training, keep in mind they will be exposed to photographs of injured individuals that will contain severe injuries. Students will learn how to tend to laceration, broken bones, puncture wounds, etc. Students will also learn skills such as applying a tourniquet, applying pressure to injuries and bandaging an injured individual.

Our safety and security foundation is built on the “Force Multiply” concept. We believe in empowering our teachers, staff members, students, parents and community members with knowledge that can save lives!

If you would like to register your child for this training, please click on the link below. Each class is limited to 40 spots. The sessions will be led by LISD security personnel.

AIM Presentation Survey Results for WSMS
In December, all students participated in the AIM for Success/ Freedom to Succeed program. AIM for Success is a sexual education program that teaches abstinence as the best way to avoid negative consequences of early sexual relationships, and more importantly, the best way for students to reach their personal goals. At the end of the presentation, students completed a survey to help our school and community better understand our current students thoughts on the program and involvement in sexual relationships. Please use this survey as a tool to continue discussions at home with your child about the benefits of abstinence!
