Welcome to Quilting News
September 2023
Message from Lisa
Every month when I sit down to type my newsletter, I really think about all that we have done in the previous months and think how lucky I am to have such a great group of ladies who support me each month.

So welcome to September and the last 4 months of this year. Not sure why time goes by so fast, but it seems to go faster and faster each month. I'm glad I took a little time during the slow month to plan ahead for things that will keep us busy little quilters. So, I hope you find a few things that you can add to your schedule and join us here in the studio for these events. We also have our Wool group and our Saturday Sewing group that anyone can join. We are donating quilts to the Hawaii families who lost everything in the fires. Quilters are the most giving people I know.

Well, I'm trying to keep this short as I'm working on Labor Day as the quilting business as taken over my shop. Thanks to everyone who has dripped off quilts to be quilted. I'm working very hard to keep up with the load. Thanks again for the Business.

Quilting ladies are the best friends you can have for life.

See you soon!

Lisa

Rope Bowl Class
We have a very special lady in our group who has been teaching the world about Rope Bowls. I have asked Cindy Farinholt to teach two classes in September for our group. Anyone can come. We will have a weekday class and a Saturday class for our Full-time workers. The supply list is below for the class. You need to have a Zig Zag machine and a correct foot. We will provide the rope and the fabric for the class to keep the cost down. I hope you will sign up for one of our classes at the small fee of $30 per person. Again, your payment will hold your spot. Space is limited so sign up fast!

  • Zigzag sewing machine
  • open toe or zigzag foot for machine
  • Denim needle
  • 50 wt cotton thread white or a color to match
  • several pre-wound bobbins
  • Roxanne's fabric glue
  • Wonder Clips
  • Stiletto
  • Pin, scissors, seam ripper
Quilting Sisters
Learning and having a heart of giving is what this group is about. We constantly want to learn new things and be challenged at making our work better. But we also have a heart of giving to those who need it. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 1 PM.

Our next meeting is September 9th, starting at 9 am. At our last meeting we had a program on antique quilts and what to look for when liking antique quilts. Some need more work than others and occasionally you find a rare keeper. At our September meeting, Colleen will be doing a short program on small projects that might be good Christmas gifts for the upcoming holiday. We are doing a three-yard challenge with our group. You may bring your project to work on at the September meeting or a project of your own. We have donated a few of our finished projects to the Hawaii group. I have the two patterns we are working from so you can bring your fabrics and pick a pattern. Please have hour quilts ready for the October meeting as we will share the different ways we make our quilts, and you can keep your quilt or donate it to one of our charities. If you If you have any show and tell for the group, we love to see your quilts that you have completed. We look forward to seeing everyone after a busy summer. Hello to Fall because it is right around the corner.

Future Projects:
September -Demonstration from Colleen
October - Three Yard Challenge Quilts
November - Veterans Appreciation Day
December - Silent Auction & Breakfast
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 19th. We will be working at the Studio that day. Bring a project that you are working on and a small snack to share. We have a great time in this group, and we love sharing all the different things with each other.
We welcome more people to join us any month. Please join our fun and exciting group of ladies. Hope to see you very soon!
Paper Piecing Tree Blocks
I have been asked by many to teach a small paper piecing project. So last year I worked on this small tree one that Kathleen Tracy put out on her site. So, I'm going to offer again two classes on this project, and I will provide you with the papers and you need. Bring your machine and your fabrics with you to this class. You will get taught how to put your fabrics together and make these little trees at our class. You can make as many as you want. A table runner is a great size to start with. So, gather your Christmas fabrics or any fabrics you want and sign up for this class. Cost $25.
Dates: October 24th and November 18th
Three Day Sew Retreat
Need a few extra days to sew away from your home? Well you can sign up for a Monday-Wednesday full three days of sewing and leave your machine and projects while you go home and sleep. I'm going to give you a full table to work at so that is going to limit spaces. So there will be only 13 spots at the 3-day sewing. You will hold your spot with payment of $15.00. Not refundable if you don't show. The doors will open each day at 9 am and close about 5:00 pm.
Date: September 25-27th. ONLY 5 SPOTS LEFT.
SPOOKTACULAR
We will have Spooktacular on October 28th. Cost is $45 per person. You will get your collectors box with a pre-cut kit inside along with directions. This is such a fun event. Only 12 spots available and they go fast. So don't delay in getting your payment to me to hold your box. Space is limited and we start at 9 am and end about 4 pm.
Thimble Creek Quilts "Ryokan" House
Do you have this Thimble Creek pattern called Ryokan? I 've had mine for a while. Great news! I decided to cut my stash of Civil War fabrics and you will get the 12 blocks in baggies along with the house fabrics to make this quilt. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THE PATTERN. (Quilter's Corner has the pattern if you need one.) You will make these blocks at your own pace. What makes it special is the way you will finish your quilt. You will need to provide your own fabric for the sashing and borders.
I have cut 10 kits, and we only have 3 left at just $80. Grab one before they are all gone. Ready for pick up September 18th! Let the fun begin!
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am, not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Future ideas for classes....

Prayers for many of our quilting sisters.....
Our quilting family needs lots of prayers right now. We keep Lynah close as she continues to get treatments. Please pray hard for her cancer to shrink and go away. She is a strong person, andwWe just want her to know that we are all thinking about her and are praying daily for her. Keep Delma in your prayers as she heals from a broken hip. She is another strong person, and we pray for her to heal and get back up and running. Keep Jane Elbert in your prayers as she has back surgery on the 11th. We pray for healing and the pain to go away. Keep Cindy Lyles and her husband in your prayers, and Merci and hubby Larry as he continues to heal. Keep Phyllis Green in your prayers as her knee heals from a fall, and we have many husbands that are in need of prayers for healing. Our group is very large, and we have others who are taking care of family members or have unspoken request.
Dear Lord, we have many in our quilting family that need your healing hand placed upon them to heal. Please touch each one and heal in your power. AMEN!
Thanks and see you soon!
Please bring a bag with your project that you are dropping off. Thanks!
Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo, Zelle and Paypal.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
