The Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) is providing Pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations to children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years of age on Thursday, Sept. 29—and on alternating Thursdays throughout the fall of 2022 — at the Health Department Wellness Center in Yeadon.

Although appointments are strongly recommended, walk-ins will be accommodated if possible. Interested parents and caregivers can schedule their child’s appointment online at delcopa.gov/vax (or click the “Schedule Your Appointment” button below).

Upcoming dates include Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Oct. 27, Nov. 10 and Nov. 24.

Pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations are free, and no health insurance is required.

Pfizer Bivalent COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shots

In addition to the pediatric COVID-19 vaccinations being provided on alternating Thursdays, DCHD is also providing COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters — including the new bivalent formulation of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster — to Delaware County residents on alternating Thursdays, beginning Thursday, September 22, at the Health Department Wellness Center in Yeadon.

The new bivalent boosters—developed specifically to combat Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5—were approved for use by the FDA on August 31, 2022 and give individuals broader protection against COVID-19.

The Pfizer-BioNTech formulation of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster is approved for use for people 12 years of age and older. Adolescents must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver in order to receive a booster shot.

Upcoming dates include Oct. 6, Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and Nov. 17.

Note that the Moderna bivalent formulation COVID-19 vaccine booster is not yet available at DCHD vaccine clinics, but individuals who have previously received the Moderna series and/or boosters are welcome to receive the Pfizer bivalent booster.

To expedite the registration process, voters are urged to register online. Online registration is quick and easy. During the registration process, applicants can elect to receive a mail-in ballot application.

Individuals who are unsure of their registration status can also visit the PA Department of State website to confirm registration. Both resources, as well as an online request form for a mail-in ballot, are linked via the buttons below.

As a reminder, to be eligible in Pennsylvania, an individual must be a U.S. citizen; at least 18 years of age by Election Day and a resident at your current address at least 30 days before the election. Note that incarcerated, imprisoned, or paroled individuals may register if they are pretrial detainees not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction. Hispanic Heritage Month Comes Alive in Rose Tree Park

StoryWalk features 'Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away' by Newbery Medalist Meg Medina

As part of its celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Delaware County has created a fun and interactive way for children to learn about the rich Hispanic culture.

Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away by Newbery Medalist Meg Medina is the featured StoryWalk® book at Rose Tree Park this fall.

Located in the upper field behind the amphitheater stage at Rose Tree Park, StoryWalk® is a children's story book exhibit that is spread out page by page across 18 reading stations along an approximately .25 mile trail in Rose Tree Park, located at 1671 N. Providence Rd. in Media.

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15. Each year, Americans observe the month by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting each year on September 15 and ending on October 15.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30-day period.

Residents are encouraged to visit StoryWalk® and celebrate and learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month with their children.

StoryWalk® was created to promote the health and literacy in children and engage young readers and their parents. The exhibits are free and open during park hours.

This Commission will help us celebrate and amplify the diversity of and within our Immigrant Community."

SEPTA Seeking Input from Delaware County Residents for New Trolley Modernization Program

SEPTA has embarked on an ambitious, once-in-a-generation effort to transform and modernize the nation’s largest trolley network — and they are looking for feedback from Delaware County residents.

The Trolley Modernization Program is a full-scale redesign and remodel of the current trolley system — which includes the Media (101), Sharon Hill (102), and 11 and 13 (in Darby, Yeadon, and Colwyn) lines here in Delaware County — and is a key initiative of SEPTA Forward, the Authority’s Strategic Plan to create a “lifestyle transit network” connecting destinations across the region by providing accessible, fast, and easy-to-access service on a modernized trolley system.

The Trolley Modernization Program will also replace each of the 1980s-era trolleys in the SEPTA fleet, with all new trolleys compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and easily accessible to residents.

With the help of the public’s input, the modernization program will introduce beautiful new station designs and will ensure that stops are easy to find, with level boarding, and, most critically, consistent service that makes it easy for riders to get where they are going.

Many members of the public have already provided input, with more than 5,000 participants offering their guidance regarding what stations should include. Feedback has ranged from station spacing and trolley traffic signal prioritization to the provision of real-time information/signage, improved lighting, better benches, and more!

Now, the public is being asked to provide feedback regarding conceptual station designs, including colors, and lighting for all trolley stations across the SEPTA system.

Once this design phase of the Trolley Modernization Program is complete, the public will be able to weigh in on more specific stations design and construction projects as the program is phased in on lines, in addition to other Trolley Modernization Program projects like line extensions. However, the essential station design will be final after this current study is complete.

To provide feedback, SEPTA has created an easy-to-use online survey, linked via the button below. For more information and details on Trolley Modernization and other SEPTA Forward initiatives, please visit the SEPTA Forward website.

In addition to the online survey, Delaware County residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback regarding trolley station designs at the Upper Darby International Festival (the 100 block of Garrett Road) on Sat., Sept. 24, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and at Dining Under the Stars in Media on Wed., Sept. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
