Term Three saw our team delivering Pathways Presentations, Employability Programme, and multiple large In-school pathway events, all of which are designed to upskill and empower the Tai Tamariki of Tai Tokerau. Connecting with many bright and aspiring young akonga,

We take pride in playing a part in bridging the gap between education and employment whilst building our school community's bonds with industry through events like our Tools of The Trade and Ngā Whai Mahi at Whangārei Boys' High School, where 23 industries came and showcased their professions and how students can pathways into their industries.

Our team have been on a relentless mission of promoting student growth, learning, and work-readiness throughout all Tai Tokerau to give students the best chance they have moving forward.

We had a student reach of well over 1400 meaningful, intentful, quality engagements during this term and it was an absolute pleasure to connect with you all.

It is now time to welcome in Term Four! We hope you have all caught up on rest and are ready to hit the ground running.

Events Update

Tools Of The Trade Kaipara

Kaipara Tools Of The Trade took place on August the 30th, and supported close to 100 students from the Kaipara District with an interest in a trade career.

The event was made up of eight industry stations, each covering a different Trade profession. This event had workshops covering:

  • Plumbing
  • Landscaping
  • Trade power tools
  • Automotive
  • Engineering/Fabrication
  • Defence Force - trade focus
  • Fencing
  • Electrical

Our team we obsoletely thrilled with the quality of the industry workshops, each workshop was hands-on, engaging informative and competitive. It was evident through the student engagement level, which maintained throughout the event, that the industry groups had done an unbelievable job and went over and above with the development of their workshops.

A student testing their skills on one of the three welding simulators that were at the event. Each simulator cost around $50, 000, so we were incredibly lucky to have them at our event!

Pepijn Luiten from PlantPro Landscaping led and amazing workshop, where students were marked at their ability to build a straight , plum and accurate timber fence line. They also gained points for teamwork, and marketing! Not bad for a 20 minute workshop!

NZMA Electrical had student completing circuits and wiring lightbulbs!

They even brought students from their programme, who chatted about what they are learning about.

Ngā Whai Mahi - Whangārei Boys' High School

Ngā Whai Mahi a a one day event for the Year 10 students of Whangarei Boys High School with the objective being to learn about the full spectrum of the six vocational pathways.

The event had 23 industry stations that the students rotated through in small groups, each with hands-on, interactive activity promoting student engagement and interest.

The Ministry of Education also delivered an informative workshop, with a focus on supporting students to understand and better navigate NCEA.

Tai Tokerau Trades Training ran an Employability Skills workshop, and WBHS ran a workshop which advertised their trade academies, Gateway and Careers services.

All in all, an excellent event, and an extremely valuable experience for these tai tamariki.

Our team were happy to be able to support and coordinate a large part of the industry and planning of this event, which was a hugely successful event overall.

A huge thank you to the team at WBHS for including us in your event this year, and a huge "well done!" for pulling it off!

We would like to thank, again, the industry groups who participated and supported the development of these lucky young men.

Tools OF The Trade - Kamo High School

Tools Of The Trade Kamo High School supported roughly 80 students from the Rangi Iwi on an exploration of Trade Careers.

Thirteen, industry led, hands-on workshops explored various Tarde careers , and Trade tool learning experiences, aiming to empower and educate their students about trade careers and the amazing options it has for them!

The workshops were:

  • Arborist
  • NorthPower
  • Fencing
  • People Potential
  • Milwaukee Tools
  • Makita Tools
  • 3M Worksafety
  • NZ Safety Blackwoods Work Safety
  • NZ Building Academy
  • NZMA Electrical
  • Canam Construction
  • A and P Society
  • NZ Police

Our team were thrilled to have played a part in the planning, and implementation of this awesome event and would like to thank (again) the industry teams that were involved in making this day happen, as well as the amazing team at the school for being so wonderful to work alongside.
