Sixty Seconds with the Superintendent

Each week, we receive questions for the Superintendent from students in pre-K through 12th grade. In this video series, Ms. Beamon will answer these questions and help our families and the community we serve get to know the leader of our public schools.

Remembering Dede Schaffner

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a longtime supporter, advocate and voice for the children and public school district of Seminole County. Dede Schaffner served in many capacities throughout her years and founded several programs which still exist at present.

As a school board member, she led with her heart and inspired others with her passion to create an education founded in excellence for every child in our community. Her life’s work involved advocacy for others, especially for investing in building relationships and creating opportunities to better the lives of people in Seminole County.

While we mourn Dede’s loss, we have a lasting and profound joy and a deep sense of pride for the legacy she left. She had an indelible impact on our schools and tens of thousands of lives that continue to this day. From her service on many boards including the School Board of Seminole County and the Education Foundation for Seminole County to the programs she founded or helped launch including Arts Alive, the Dream Auction, the Red Bag Food Campaign, Youth Summit and the Dividends School Volunteer program, Dede was the epitome of a bridge builder helping others navigate challenges and creating pathways for those around her.  Dede championed many other initiatives too numerous to list, across every part of our school district and community.

“Believe in what you do, do what you believe in.”

-Dede Schaffner

February is Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month

A trained workforce ensures robust economic development in Central Florida. Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provide the foundational training necessary for students to continue their post-secondary education and career pathway. The availability of high-quality education is also a major factor in business relocation decisions, which brings even more high-demand, high-wage jobs to our community.

CTE programs through Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) provide students with rigorous, real-world learning opportunities. Nearly all teachers in these programs have worked in industry and are supported by a business advisory committee that identifies changing trends in the field.
