Clean Water and Stream Restoration Efforts in Lebanon County
Access to clean water is an essential part of our everyday lives. In Lebanon County, local government, non-profit organizations, and community groups work together to support healthy waterways. Recently, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that 13 projects in eight Southcentral Pennsylvania counties, aimed at watershed restoration and protection, have been awarded more than $4.7 million in funding through this year’s Growing Greener grants. Included in this funding are two projects in Lebanon County:

1.South Londonderry Township: Killinger Creek Stream Stabilization and Riparian
Forest Buffer, $260,000
2. North Cornwall Township, Cleona Borough: Quittapahilla Creek Floodplain Restoration, $110,500

These projects will improve the Killinger Creek and Quittapahilla Creek by removing sediment, restoring creek banks, and through planting native plants and trees to help stabilize the land running next to the creeks. The Lebanon County Clean Water Action Team has a goal to improve and protect our local waterways and natural resources. This organization developed a Community Action Plan to identify cost-effective projects that will provide benefits on the local level, as well as to our neighboring communities and ultimately to the Chesapeake Bay.
