Special Program: Preschool Learning at Home
Wed. Jan 27th at 6:30pm

It might be fair to say that learning is never as much fun as when you’re a preschooler – every interaction, exploration, game, and question builds little ones’ brains and awareness of their world!

Please join us for a conversation with a local Montessori preschool educator, who will build awareness of how playing and learning are simultaneous for children and also discuss ways to make learning fun at home. The program will also include a Q&A with the presenter.
2021 Winter Reading Challenge
Jan 1st to Jan 31st

How would you like to help the Nevins Library try to win author visits and new books for you to check out of the library? All you have to do is read!

This January the library will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Books Like Us,” sponsored by Simon & Schuster, and you can be part of the fun. All ages are invited to read and log their books this month

So, the Nevins Library challenges you – and every member of our community, young and old -- to read at least 5 books during January to reach a community goal of 1,000 books!

Keep a log of your reading on Beanstack (which you can access on a desktop computer, iPad, or tablet, or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker mobile app on your smartphone).

Let’s get reading, Methuen!
Announcing the Methuen Friendship Quilt Project
In the mid-1800s, "Friendship Quilts" were a popular way to commemorate events and memories, often with a large group of people creating the quilt for a particular person or family. These quilts were often personalized with the signatures of those who made the squares in the quilt.

We would like to announce our take on this idea: The Methuen Friendship Quilt Project.

Methuen is a strong community with equally strong neighbors, and we'd like to help create this quilt to show just how resilient and creative we can be.

Anyone and everyone is invited to create a square (or two!) for this quilt. It can be any design, any color, any thing you'd like (although we have the right to not include anything vulgar, profane, etc.) but it needs to be made primarily of cotton cloth, able to be displayed outside, and measure 8" x 8" (leaving 1/2" border for sewing together).

We encourage personalization, like the signatures in the historic quilts. We would like the quilt we build together to encourage hope, friendship, and unity throughout our community.
We will have resources available at the library to show you how and to answer your questions.

We will begin collecting these quilt squares at the library beginning December 1 and continue with the collection through the end of March.

We hope to have an outdoor display of the quilt prepared by mid-April for all to enjoy.

What's Happening in Children's?
Some Wonderful End of Year Programs in Children's
Now that the holidays are over, the Children’s Department is slowing down a bit in January -- but we still have lots to offer!

In addition to the Parent program at the top of the newsletter, we’ll be offering our usual array of online storytimes, book groups, and online programs for babies and preschoolers. Including a really fun Special Storytime to be posted on the Children's Facebook and website.

Also, keep an eye on the Children’s Department Facebook Page as we roll out some more “crafty” take-away projects for kids to enjoy at home!
