A Weekly Newsletter from Pine Street Church
A Word from Andrew... Welcome to the Second Sunday of Advent (Peace)... and Celebration of Holy Communion
Dear Friends,

First and foremost, please watch this week's PSC At-Home Worship service. (Click on the video to the right). Today, we focus on the spiritual theme of peace guided by the prophet Isaiah, John the Baptizer, and Dr. Maya Angelou's powerful poem, "Amazing Peace."

We will also celebrate Holy Communion, so please have your elements ready. Communion is celebrated today from a special, sacred place that you will recognize!

Second, I hope that you have received your Advent wreaths. Let us all join in and light candles and use our at-home faith formation Advent guide to draw deeper meaning out of this sacred season. *You are invited to send photos of you lighting your Advent wreaths that will be used in our Sunday worship videos. EMAIL DAVID with those.

Third, along with the Advent wreath, you can download our Advent devotional booklet (based on the poetry of Maya Angelou and weekly Scriptures) HERE.

Fourth, thank you to all who have submitted your New Horizons 2021 Commitment Cards (pledge cards). You can also indicate your 2021 commitment online HERE.

Finally, please be sure to share Hyphenated Life podcast episodes AND this morning's Sunday worship video with your friends and on your social media channels. Sharing is caring! If you don't wish to share, please like or comment on any social media posts sent out by Hyphenated Life, Pine Street Church, AND our Off Broadway Preschool on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

With heart,
Andrew

UPCOMING EVENTS
ART BRUNCH
Sundays at 9:30am
Peggy Guggenheim

The Guggenheim name is synonymous with modern art, but Peggy cared as much for the artist as the art they produced. This self-described "black sheep" of the Guggenheim family, who never went to college, received her education from artists. By championing the most avant garde artists and the art they produced, she turned a $40,000 investment into a collection worth billions today, all while withstanding continuous ridicule from her family and supposed art "experts". Her willingness to seek out those in the know and learn the art trade helped her develop one of the best eyes for art in the 20th Century.

CLICK HERE to join Art Brunch at 9:30AM on Sunday Mornings.

You can learn more about each week's teachings at the WAMA Art Asylum page HERE.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pine Street Church's Community Partner Attention Homes Update
Clean Up Day: Residents at 1440 Pine Street Give Back

For the past 4 years, Attention Homes has hosted a Community Clean-up Day – our way to show appreciation for the community surrounding our programs. This year's Clean-up Day occurred on October 22, 2020 and marked the first year that tenants at the 1440 Pine Street Apartments could participate.

With gloves, bags, trash pickers, and masks, program participants walked alongside community members to pick up discarded cigarette butts, abandoned water bottles, and other debris in a 12 block radius surrounding the apartments. The day concluded with a feeling of solidarity and belonging as community members shared germ-free elbow bumps amongst tenants.
Anti-Racism Resources: Articles, Books, and Podcasts
*Additional resources added July 31, 2020

With protests across the country calling for systemic change and justice for the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, many people are asking themselves what they can do to help.

To help you get started, we’ve curated this list of books (see illustration above), podcasts, and articles suggested by a varity of anti-racist organizations, educators, and black-owned bookstores (which is recommended to find online to purchase these books).

They cover the history of racism in America, identifying white privilege, and looking at the intersection of racism and misogyny. You may see a fuller list of books HERE.

As a community, we pledge our best efforts with God's help to be a community that embraces everyone, to work personally and communally to dismantle systemic racism, and to be a force for good with God's help,
