The Land Trust's seventh 1% Wednesday Industry Grouping highlights our dedicated Pennies for Preservation restaurant partners who offer lunch. On top of keeping our stomachs full and satisfied, these businesses -- all of which are locally owned! -- are helping to preserve and protect more than 70 acres of maritime forest and important habitat at Oatland North.

We hope that you will join us in welcoming
(and patronizing!) our newest
Pennies for Preservation Partner,

A boutique donut shop, Dulce Dough Bakery opened its doors during the 2020 Christmas holidays and immediately became a local favorite with the line of customers stretching out the door. Owner Ryanne Carrier’s donuts are handmade from brioche dough, a recipe she worked on for years to perfect. Everything at the shop is made from scratch, even the jellies, glazes, and pastry creams. From the maple bacon, vanilla glazed, and cinnamon donuts to the sticky buns and quiche, you will be coming back for more.

"I’m thrilled for Dulce Dough Bakery to participate in the Land Trust's Pennies for Preservation program.
My husband’s restaurant, Certified Burgers & Beverages, has been a partner in the program for years. Certified is where I began offering my donuts and other baked goods before opening Dulce Dough.
I am proud to offer the same preservation donation opportunity to my customers that Certified and other partners have been providing to the public.
It’s such a small amount but has such a
tremendous impact on our island community.”

BARBARA JEAN'S
The idea of restaurant customers providing pennies to help protect and preserve St. Simons all began with Jim and Barbara Barta, owners of Barbara Jean’s Restaurant and Bar. The iconic, much-loved restaurant is nestled in the center of the St. Simons Pier Village and is as much of a landmark destination as the Village itself. Opened in 1998, the cozy eatery is more like Mom’s kitchen than it is a restaurant. The heart of the dining experience, and the creative force behind all the recipes, is namesake Barbara Jean. Home-style Southern entrees that are made-from-scratch daily create the experience of “Easy Southern Dining” and include famed house specialties like Crab Cakes, She Crab Soup, the slightly mysterious “Chocolate Stuff” dessert, and homemade breads.

“People ask me all the time, ‘Where did the name ‘Fuse' come from?’

"The name ‘Fuse’ comes from the verb: to become one by blending or melting together. Not only is that what our product is—swirled flavors of yogurt and favorite treats mixed together--- it's what we all do when we go to Fuse together.

"If this past year has taught us anything, it is that we’re all better together, and we’ve come to realize just how important being together is. As a community, we have come together to make our home a special place and preserving properties like Oatland North through the Pennies for Preservation program helps makes that happen.

"Life is better Fused together.”

SUPPORTING OUR LOCALS
Please remember to continue supporting our Golden Isles businesses
and the Land Trust's dedicated Pennies for Preservation partners.
Pennies for Preservation businesses raise funds to preserve and protect St. Simons Island.
Pennies for Preservation funds are raised by participating businesses either 1) collecting a voluntary 1% or specific dollar amount donation from their customers' receipts/invoices, 2) donating 1% of their companies proceeds or, 3) providing in-kind services to the Land Trust.

Currently, 100% of the Pennies for Preservation contributions goes directly to protecting 70 acres at Oatland North on the island’s north end and to helping create a wilderness corridor on St. Simons.
