2022 White Coat Ceremony

Congratulations to the MD Class of 2026, who received their white coats and recited the Hippocratic Oath along with MUSM faculty during a special ceremony on Saturday. The full photo gallery will be available in next week's newsletter and a video recording will be available to the our website this week.

October 6 - 16 10 am - 9 pm

Experience the fun of the fair while sharing the importance of our mission with Georgians coming from all over our great state! Student volunteers will give blood pressure checks, with special days for teddy bear clinics. All volunteers will get a free t-shirt and free entry to the fair.

Excellence in Library Research Award

Deadline October 7

The Skelton Medical library is now accepting applications for the 2022 Jocelyn A. Rankin Student Excellence in Library Research Award. Students currently enrolled in any of the MUSM programs across all MUSM campuses are invited to apply. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 7,2022.


The purpose of the award is to highlight library research. If you have utilized any of the medical library’s resources or services to complete any projects while a student, we encourage you to apply.


You do NOT have to have a completed project to be eligible for this award. View the complete list of application criteria, eligibility, and forms here.


Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the Evaluation Rubric that the Evaluation Committee uses to review submissions. Questions and submissions can be directed to Jennifer Dawson.

Handling Each Other With Care

National Physician Suicide Awareness Day is Saturday, September 17. On this day, current and future physicians are encouraged to start conversations and break down stigmas around mental health, take time to recognize warning signs, and learning how to approach fellow colleagues who may be at risk. Dr. Mark Greenawald dives deeper into the importance of looking out for your peers and how to reach out if you notice signs in his article.

Mercer professor part of team that discovered ancient crocodile species

A Mercer University School of Medicine professor is part of a research team that has discovered two new species of ancient crocodiles in Africa. Dr. Francis Kirera, associate professor of anatomy and former curator of hominid paleontology at the National Museums of Kenya, is a co-author of a study.
