Dear Residents -

Although we ended the week with miserable weather, I am grateful for the beautiful sun-filled weather we had on Veterans Day and that I was able to attend the dedication of Hezekiah Easter Veteran’s Memorial Square in Nyack. Hezekiah Easter, Jr. was a WWII Veteran that was elected to the Village of Nyack Board of Trustees in 1965, the first African American elected official in Rockland County, going on to serve in the Rockland County Legislature from 1970 to 1992. Mr. Easter was fluent in German, which made him indispensable to his unit when he was deployed to Germany during the war, and also studied music at Julliard. Mr. Easter was responsible for the preservation of Mt. Moor Cemetery, where he was the last person to be buried upon his death in 2007. Once again proving that Orangetown is rich in history.

Start marking up your calendar for all things holiday related. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and shortly thereafter will be Share Christmas and the Holidays, sponsored by the Pearl River Rotary, the Orangeburg Fire Department Holiday Parade, the Pearl River Chamber of Commerce Snowflake contest, the STAC’s Hospitality Management student’s first-ever Winter Wonderland Family Festival and so much more.

With so many festivities planned, these next few weeks are going to fly by. Let’s hope for as little precipitation (in the form of snow) as possible. With COVID having cancelled so much this past year and a half, it would be great to enjoy the holidays with as much fanfare as possible.

Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to apply for individual assistance with FEMA is on December 6, 2021.

Enjoy your weekend!

Respectfully,
Teresa M. Kenny

Piermont's Empire Hose Company #1 is raising funds for a memorial for their past member Thomas Pomplin and awareness to recognize his 1854 death as the first Line of Duty Death in the fire service in Rockland county.

Research done by Ex Chief Dan Goswick has shown that his untimely passing was directly as a result of his response to a fire in Nyack, but his death was never recorded as a LODD. They are working to fix that by getting this hero from our history officially recognized, and building a memorial to his selfless sacrifice that his descendants can visit.

Your donation will help give the Piermont Empire Hose Company #1 and FF Thomas Pomplin, and his ultimate sacrifice, the long overdue recognition it deserves.

If you did not sign up when the program started – or would like more information about your energy choices, you can join the Information Session on November 17. You can always get more information through the help line at 845 859-9099 option 1 or online at www.RocklandCommunityPower.com. The helpline is available Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
