National Grandparent's Day

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter declared the first Sunday after Labor Day to be National Grandparents Day. Each year, the president issues a proclamation to keep the tradition going.

Grandparents and children have a special connection that is proven to both make grandparents live longer, and also make children more emotionally resilient. It’s time to celebrate grandparents on their special day! Get ready for some fun activities for kids!

Invite grandparents to spend time in the classroom with their grandchildren. Grandparents can be classroom helps, share lunch with their grandchildren, or read stories to the class. Consider those children who may not have grandparents or their grandparents are unable to visit. Invite important adults in children’s lives to visit as well.

  • Have children create a personalized keepsake for grandparents such as hand prints or a family tree.

  • Help children write a letter to their grandparents. Have children discuss what they love about their grandparents or a favorite memory they have.

The following H&H Child Care Training Center’s trainings explore ways to include families in the classroom and make meaningful connections:

STEM in the Kitchen

September 10th was  National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day. National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day was started and is sponsored by the Young Chefs Academy (YCA). The mission of the Young Chefs Academy for this day is to get people of all ages to be involved in the kitchen. Cooking or baking are things that can be really fun for anyone once they are exposed to it. The YCA encourages all ages to help plan, prep, and make meals with their family starting at a young age. This day allows for the children to spend some time in the kitchen if they aren’t normally used to it. The focus of the YCA is to provide experience for young kids in the kitchen and to help them learn tips, tricks, and healthy eating habits.

Who said the kitchen can't support STEM activities. Check out some of these activities or explorations/experiments Kids-Cooking-Activities.com Have fun!
