A key component of our AVA culture is affirmations. In our fast-paced and challenging lives it is easy to miss, or fail to focus on, the countless good things happening around us each day. We all have peers, coworkers, family members, and even strangers passing through our days who are working hard, committing acts of kindness, or just being decent people. It is simple to gloss over those nuggets of goodness and focus our energy on the problems and challenges. As the old saying goes, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease," and sometimes we forget to squeak until we are unhappy.

While it can be difficult to find the time to affirm the people around us, there are powerful benefits to doing so. After all, being good is not always a simple task either. Each day the students, parents, teachers, and staff of AVA are putting tremendous effort into doing the best that we can, and that deserves recognition.

In walking the halls at Aspen View, it is not unusual to sees notes of praise,

encouragement, and gratitude taped to a locker, a classroom door, or even an

administrator's door. Small as they may be, these acts of encouragement are

nourishment for the spirit. Whether it is a parent getting a positive email about their child, a teacher getting a thank you card, or a student earning a Wolf Buck, it is a wonderful feeling to know that members of our community notice and value what you are doing. It is easy to fire off an email when we are upset or concerned, but much more difficult to remember to do this when things are going well, when needs are being met, and when people are happy.

In addition to the benefit it has on others, there is great personal benefit in practicing gratitude. When we slow down and focus on who/what we appreciate, we are reminded of the many aspects of life for which we are grateful.

As we continue another excellent school year, I encourage everyone to take stock of that for which we are glad and spend a moment sharing that gratitude. Let us lift each other up and encourage those around us to continue their good work.

Student ID's Each Student Gets One

Your elementary student should have gotten their picture taken during Meet and Greets and Your Middle School Student on one of the first two days of school. They later would have received their Student ID in class. If they did not receive their ID this is because they may not have gotten their picture taken yet this year. Students will receive their first ID for free. If they haven't had their picture taken yet they will still get the opportunity to get their picture taken on RETAKE Day on October 12th.

This year if we have to request a replacement ID your student will need to bring $5 cash or check to the front office AND complete this form. Replacement orders will be sent every other week to Studio 5. They can take up to 10 business days to get a replacement once they receive the order.

Volunteer Corner

Welcome to another school year at Aspen View. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.

VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.

Preregistration on the Raptor Volunteer site is required, this only needs to be completed one time.

To log volunteer hours, please visit the Volunteer Portal.

These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
