David F. M. Brown, MD, Shares Personal Connections to Cooley Dickinson as Interim President and CEO
|
Monday, March 8, 2021 marked the beginning of David F. M. Brown, MD's time as interim President and CEO at Cooley Dickinson Health Care. Dr. Brown shared his excitement to be part of the organization, and his personal connections to Cooley Dickinson, in a letter to community members yesterday.
"My father, Dr. Norman Brown, is the reason I initially became interested in a career in medicine. Now retired, my father was a gastroenterologist who practiced for nearly 30 years at Northampton Internal Medicine Associates and was on the Cooley Dickinson Medical Staff. I’ve been a patient at Cooley Dickinson, with several admissions and surgeries back in high school (Amherst Regional High School class of 1981) for a variety of orthopedic ailments. Through these mishaps, I met and was befriended by the late Rollin Johnson, MD, a renowned Cooley Dickinson orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Johnson allowed me, as a high school student, to shadow him in the Operating Room. He was a wonderful teacher, which further sparked my interest in medicine. Maybe some of you can relate to formative experiences like these. For me, returning to Cooley Dickinson to serve this community is personal. My parents still live in Amherst as does my brother Michael and his family. They choose Cooley Dickinson because of the outstanding care we provide as an organization." Read more.

The Community Classroom
Local Business-Owner Featured as Expert in HuffPost Parenting Article
|
“Our kids have still learned a ton this year, even outside of the traditional learning setting,” Allen said. “They’ve learned how to make omelets, to enjoy the beauty of a snowy morning, to play guitar, to make conversation at the dinner table, to build pillow forts, and how to enjoy their family. They’ve learned how to be flexible, how to persevere, how to be tough, and how it’s okay to break down and show emotions. I would encourage everyone to do an inventory of all the things their kids have actually learned and celebrate those things.”
