Creekmoor Elementary School fifth grader Mac Northcraft won the Ray-Pec School District Spelling Bee on Jan. 13. Brooklyn Meloy, a seventh grader at Ray-Pec East Middle School, was the runner-up. Mac advances to the Cass County Spelling Bee, where he will compete for the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Twenty-seven students in grades 4-8 participated in the District Bee, which was conducted virtually for the first time at Ray-Pec.
Ray-Pec to use new tool to gather your feedback

In an ongoing effort to improve school culture and focus on feedback related to parent and family engagement, the Ray-Pec School District is using a new tool.

Pulse is the new tool that will send you regular, short, anonymous surveys. The quick and frequent feedback will provide District leaders with information to make better decisions related to school culture and family engagement.

In the past, the District sent out one or two comprehensive surveys during the school year. In addition, the District would send topic-specific surveys about things such as summer school, the school calendar, or parent-teacher conferences. Rather than sharing feedback once or twice a year, the new service will provide a systematic way for parents to provide continuous input year-round.

Using Pulse will allow the District to gather information about topics such as communication, your child's safety, your child's learning, and school leadership.
You will receive an email from your child's principal next week with directions for setting up your account. If you have children in multiple schools, you will provide feedback specific to each school. In addition, you can choose to provide your feedback through SMS text or email.

Ray-Pec began using Pulse about a year ago to begin gathering feedback from staff. Now, it's time to expand use of the tool to include parents. In the future, the District plans to roll out the tool to students.
Polar Plunge set for Jan. 30 in new location

The Polar Plunge is two weeks away, and the Prehistoric Panthers are already among the top fundraising teams. Students and staff plunge into the icy lake water during the annual event to raise money for Special Olympics, and the Raymore-Peculiar School District is historically one of the top fundraisers. This year, the Ray-Pec team's goal is to raise $15,000. As of today, the team has raised more than $2,170.

The Polar Plunge is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Little Platte Swim Beach at Smithville Lake. This year, the location and event timing have changed to make the event safer for participants and observers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Join the team or make a donation here. Click on either "Join a Team" or "Donate" and select Prehistoric Panthers. For school, select Raymore Peculiar School District. You can also make donations on behalf of a specific participant.
