Greetings “Tiger” Students and Families,
As we navigate through these challenging times, and we are asking staff, students, and families to continue to be flexible, I just wanted to share how much I appreciate how we as a LC staff, student body, school, and community continue to come together to meet each challenge. Our dedication, persistence, patience, caring, and overall understanding that this pandemic is an issue that has many layers and one that we do not have total control over. We continue to focus on what we can control and that is the safety, care, and well-being of each other. I care about our staff, students, and families, and your feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. I am not able to be the best principal possible without you and your voice!
I have a few reminders and updates to share:
- Students, staff, and visitors must wear mask or approved protective face shields while in the building, at sporting events, and school performances. Mask must be worn covering the mouth and nose.
- As a school and district, we are following the guidelines from the CDC and local health district.
- Starting next week, athletic contest, performances, are being postponed to a later date.
- Rubber Chicken is being postponed to a later date.
- Families- please make sure we have your updated phone number and email as messages are being sent to families by phone and email to update you regarding COVID guideline and procedures, athletic events, and school. Contact Karin Payne at karinpa@spokaneschools.org with the update.

There is no school this Tuesday January 18. This is replacing a non-school day in March to allow for us to “pause” during this spike with COVID 19 issues.
- This weekend, we celebrate the accomplishment and efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how much he helped our society make progress in the area of equity/equality.

Choice Transfers for 2022-2023 | Families interested in having their student attend a school other than their assigned neighborhood school can request to attend another SPS school of their choice. Financial Aid (FAFSA) Opens Soon! | |
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened October 1! It is highly recommended that all LC Seniors file the FAFSA - it is FREE to file. It is the first step in getting financial aid -- including grants, scholarships, work study, and loans - from any college, technical school, or career training program. Governor's Scholarship for Foster Youth | |
The Washington State Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth is a scholarship program that helps young men and women from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree. Scholarship award amounts range from $2,000 to $4,000 depending on the college of attendance. Selected students can access the annual scholarship for up to five years to complete an undergraduate study. Students must be enrolled full time and maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to renew the scholarship each year.

Leadership 1000 Scholarship | |
The Leadership 1000 Scholarship awards funding to certain high school seniors attending eligible high schools who are planning to enroll in a Washington state college or university. The scholarship is renewable, and it is available in amounts up to $5,000 per academic year. In addition to the scholarship, scholars receive career and financial aid guidance as well as networking opportunities with College Success Foundation Alumni and scholarship donors. Tiger Parents and Tigers - the.Lewis & Clark Learning Center (LCLC) is up and running. We have some awesome teachers and paraeducators who are working hard for our Tigers that may need a little help in the afternoons on homework. LCLC can be a time to work independently as well in a quiet place. LCLC is open from 2:45-3:45, Monday-Thursday in the cafeteria. There is a bus that comes around 4:00pm if the students need a ride home as well. | | | |

If you need food over the weekend, then you should sign up for Bite2Go! Bite2Go is 100% free and completely anonymous.
Once you sign up you will receive a bag of food in a teacher and/or staff members classroom once a week. And you get to choose the teacher/staff member; so, it can be someone you have this year, or a teacher that you have a connection with from a previous year. Make sure to let the teacher/staff member know you selected them, so they expect the delivery.
You will pick up your Bite2Go bag from their classroom after 3rd period on Thursdays or anytime on Fridays.

- Click the link here. This will take you to the Bite2Go order form.
- Fill out the order form.
- Input your student ID and what teacher you would like your bag to be delivered to at LC.

- Pick items from the Bite2Go menu, you will get these items every week, but you can change them at any time to add variety to your bag.
- Once the order form is filled out and submitted you will be able to pick up your Bite2Go bag on Thursdays after 3rd period or Fridays at any time.

Student and Parent/Visitor Parking | |
Parent/Visitor Parking: LC does not have designated visitor parking, so you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.
Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Before and after school, 4th Avenue in front of LC is a busy place with school buses and parents competing for limited space. In order to help alleviate congestion, we recommend that parents drop off and pick up students either on 5th Avenue, 3rd Avenue or a block east or west of LC on 4th Avenue. It is important to not park (even for a drop off) in the bus zones.
Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots. Student parking permits can be purchased in the Business Office for $5. The lot directly in front of the main building and the parking garage are only for LC staff and are monitored for cars without staff permits.

Disposable surgical masks, 2-3 ply fabric masks, and 2-ply gators are all appropriate. Mesh/knitted masks are not appropriate.
