TOWN CLEAN UP RECAP

We had a great turnout on May 19th! As you move through the Village, note:

  • the corner entrance from 108th onto SE 29th is fully trimmed and mulched,
  • the east bed on 104th just north of SE 27th is all weeded and mulched,
  • the ratty picnic table at the northeast end of the Academy Path is GONE,
  • the laurel re-sprouts & weeds were removed from the bed along 106th & on around the corner to SE 29th,
  • Tom Stowe deserves special recognition for consistently tending the swale along 108th including mucking it out for proper drainage.

Special thanks to Andrea Sharp and Gail Knowles for surprising the neighborhood with hanging flower baskets!!

NO DUMPING IN GREENSPACES

During the recent Clean Up, it became obvious that some of the Town's greenspaces and less obvious road-right-of- ways are being used as dumping grounds for junk - including yard debris. Please use your own yard waste containers and instruct hired help to do the same. Special thanks to Fritz Johnston who took on the task of removing a significant quantity of yard waste which had been deposited on the undeveloped road to the west of his home.

CALL 911

Whenever a crime has been committed, call 911. The dispatcher will determine the best course of action based on other activity in the area. It is important to have a record of the crime through this avenue in addition to filing a report online and creating a case number. King County Sheriff will increase their patrolling if there is an increase in reported crime.

Tips to Deter Crime:

  • Install motion sensor lights by all exterior doors
  • Close the garage door and cover view windows so no one can see inside
  • If you are able, install cameras on your property and place clearly-visible signs indicating the presence of audio/video recording devices
  • Don’t leave your garage door opener inside your vehicle when parking your vehicle in the driveway
  • Always lock your doors & windows
  • Do not leave checkbooks, cash or important financial information out in the open

BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICE TESTING

It is time again to perform annual tests of backflow prevention devices (BFD). These devices are required on any system that is permanently connected to the Town’s water distribution lines, e.g., lawn sprinklers, fire sprinklers, and boilers. All BFDs must be tested every year, and many residents participate in the Town’s testing program. Last year’s testing fee was $46 per device; we have no information yet on this year’s fee. If you with to join the Town’s testing program, please contract Clerk/ Treasurer Sue Ann Spens by June 15th to let her know.

PHOTOS FOR TOWN WEBSITE

We love to receive photos of our lovely Village to use on the Town’s website and keep it fresh. If you have any you would be willing to share, please contact Clerk/ Treasurer Sue Ann Spens for more details. (Pictures should not include identifiable people; if they do, we have to obtain a release to use them.)

LAKE TO LAKE BIKE RIDE

On Saturday June 10th, Bellevue will again host their now-annual Lake to Lake Bike Ride, a recreation ride where all riders are expected to follow the rules of the road and trail. Most riders opt for the short course; those who opt for the long course will pass through Beaux Arts along the arterial, i.e., 104th SE to SE 28th to 105th SE, between 9:30 am and 11 am. Bellevue anticipates that no more than 100 will opt for the longer ride. COUNCIL BUSINESS

The Council met on Tuesday May 9, 2023 and discussed the following:

  • Building Code Adoption: The Council passed ordinance No. 462 adopting the 2021 State Building Code. We have since learned that the State has delayed its own adoption of this code. The Town’s adoption of this code will coincide with the State’s.
  • Fee Revision: The Town updated the fee schedule to reflect increases in the cost to review tree-removal permits.
  • Legislative Update: The Council discussed the impact of recent “middle-housing” bills passed by the State Legislature and the possibility of needing to enact interim regulations concerning drug possession in light of the Legislature’s failure to address the Blake Fix.
  • Public Space ordinance: The Council passed Ordinance No. 463 setting rules for use of the Town’s public trails. Those rules prohibit motor-vehicle use of the trails and limit path access hours to 5am to midnight.
  • Street Vacations: The Council was recently asked to consider vacating an unused street right-of-way. Before making a decision on the request, the Council has decided to consider how best to manage all of the unused rights-of-way in the Village and will continue a discussion of the topic at the June Council meeting.
