The God Who Pursues Us

El Dios Que Nos Persigue

Un mensaje navideño del presidente

Dear IGBC Facilitators and Students,

We focus this month on God’s greatest gift to humankind, His Son, Jesus Christ who came to earth to bring Salvation to all people. I have been studying the Old Testament in my class at Wheaton College and I have been fascinated by the way God endeavored to reach out to His creation in order to establish a covenant relationship with them.

God, the King of kings, created a blueprint for the Kingdom which started with Adam and Eve who walked with God in the garden. But after sin entered the world, humanity rebelled and caused alienation in the Kingdom. God chose Israel and the Kingdom redemption was initiated. Scene 1 - Promises of Kingdom (Abrahamic Covenant) God turned to Abraham and established a covenant with him that “..all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3). Scene 2 - Preparing a People for the Kingdom (Sinai Covenant) Torah obedience. Scene 3 - A Land for God’s People, next came the Mount Sinai covenant with Moses and the Israelites who were God’s chosen

people with whom He wanted an intimate relationship. But the Israelites didn’t fulfill the requirements of this covenant and turned to foreign gods. Scene 4 - A king for God’s People in the land (Davidic Covenant).

The people asked for a king so they could be like the other nations. David came along and God established the Davidic covenant with him however, both he and Solomon fell away from the Lord. But God still had a plan to bring the Messiah into the world through the line of David. We know later there came division, exile, and a partial restoration in returning to the Promised land.

There are 14 generations in all from Abraham to David, 14 generations from David to the exile to Babylon and 14 generations from the exile to Christ. Israel’s history of the redemptive act of God in His dealings with a people in covenant relationship with Himself is part of the main teaching of the Old Testament. Jeremiah 31:31, says, “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.” This new covenant can be seen in Luke 22:20, In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

Nos enfocamos este mes en el mayor regalo de Dios para la humanidad, Su Hijo, Jesucristo, quien vino a la tierra para traer Salvación a todas las personas. He estado estudiando el Antiguo Testamento en mi clase en Wheaton College y me ha fascinado la forma en que Dios se esforzó por llegar a Su creación para establecer una relación de pacto con ellos.

Dios, el Rey de reyes, creó un modelo para el Reino que comenzó con Adán y Eva que caminaron con Dios en el jardín. Pero después de que el pecado entró en el mundo, la humanidad se rebeló y causó alienación en el Reino. Dios eligió a Israel y se inició la redención del Reino. Escena 1 - Promesas del Reino (Pacto Abrahámico) Dios se volvió a Abraham y estableció un pacto con él de que "... todos los pueblos de la tierra serán bendecidos por ti" (Génesis 12: 3). Escena 2 - Preparando a un pueblo para el reino (Pacto del Sinaí) La obediencia a la Torá. Escena 3 - Una tierra para el pueblo de Dios, luego vino el pacto del Monte Sinaí con Moisés y los israelitas que eran el pueblo elegido por Dios con quienes Él quería una relación íntima. Pero los israelitas no cumplieron con los requisitos de este pacto y se volvieron a dioses extranjeros. Escena 4 - Un rey para el pueblo de Dios en la tierra (Pacto Davídico).

La gente incluso pidió un rey para poder ser como las otras naciones. David llegó y Dios estableció el pacto davídico con él; sin embargo, tanto él como Salomón se apartaron del Señor. Pero Dios todavía tenía un plan para traer al Mesías al mundo a través del linaje de David. Sabemos que más tarde vino la división, el exilio y una restauración parcial al regresar a la tierra prometida.

Hay 14 generaciones en total desde Abraham hasta David, 14 generaciones desde David hasta el exilio a Babilonia y 14 generaciones desde el exilio hasta Cristo. La historia de Israel del acto redentor de Dios en Su trato con un pueblo en una relación de pacto con Él mismo es parte de la enseñanza principal del Antiguo Testamento. Jeremías 31:31 dice: "Vienen días", declara el Señor, "en que haré un nuevo pacto con el pueblo de Israel y con el pueblo de Judá". Este nuevo pacto se puede ver en Lucas 22:20, de la misma manera, después de la cena, tomó la copa y dijo: "Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por vosotros es derramada".

"God still longs for everyone on earth to enter into this new covenant relationship with Him and this ultimate covenant was set in motion by Jesus Christ coming to earth as the Messiah."

I am grateful that after each endeavor God made to make a covenant with the Israelites and afterwards with all humankind that He didn’t give up because of our failures and sin. He pursued us with His unconditional love and forgiveness. God still longs for everyone on earth to enter into this new covenant relationship with Him and this

ultimate covenant was set in motion by Jesus Christ coming to earth as the Messiah.

So, God is pursuing us but are we pursuing Him? Are we making Him the priority He should be in our lives? Are we pressing in right now even more closely so He can put His law in our minds and write them on our heart? May you become consumed with His love, peace, and joy as you pursue Him and He pursues you.

"Dios todavía anhela que todos en la tierra entren en esta relación del nuevo pacto con Él y este pacto final fue puesto en marcha por Jesucristo viniendo a la tierra como el Mesías."

Estoy agradecido de que después de cada esfuerzo que Dios hizo para hacer un pacto con los israelitas y luego con toda la humanidad, no se rindió debido a nuestros fracasos y pecados. Nos persiguió con su amor incondicional y su perdón. Dios todavía anhela que todos en la tierra entren en esta relación del nuevo pacto con Él y este pacto final fue puesto en marcha por Jesucristo viniendo a la tierra como el Mesías.

Entonces, Dios nos está persiguiendo, pero ¿lo estamos persiguiendo nosotros? ¿Le estamos convirtiendo en la prioridad que debería tener en nuestras vidas? ¿Estamos presionando aún más de cerca para que Él pueda poner Su ley en nuestra mente y escribirla en nuestro corazón? Que te consuman Su amor, paz y gozo mientras lo persigue y Él te persigue a ti.
