Sunday on Cultural Connection on the Air - ACO's David Amado and artist/poet/cattleman Sean Sexton
NEW!
Listen to Cultural Connection on the Air Sundays at 8 a.m. on WAXE 1370 AM and 107.9 FM and on iHeartRadio.com.
I was one of the lucky few to get an appointment for a vaccine shot in the most recent round of openings here in Indian River County. I'm scheduled for today, and not knowing if I will feel side effects from the shot, I decided to send out this just-in-case mini Arts Blast and follow up with the full issue tomorrow. There are some things on the calendar in the next several days you might want to know about, so here you go.

For those still trying to grab an appointment online, when the next dates are announced, don't give up until you get the message that all appointments have been filled. If you ever tried calling in to a radio contest line as a kid, getting a busy signal time after time but then hearing the line connect, you know that persistence sometimes pays.

I did a little Googling on what I might expect to experience and will share it with you. If you've had the vaccine, I'd like to hear if/how it affected you.

The most common side effect is soreness at the site of injection. Other side effects include fatigue, headache, muscle aches, chills, joint pain, and possibly some fever.

If you haven't seen it already or want to watch Ballet Vero Beach's Nutcracker on the Indian River one more time, today is it. Artistic Director/CEO Adam Schnell extended its run through January 14, leading up to opening night for Program I in the 2021 season. The Nutcracker behind-the-scenes video will remain online.
After almost an entire year of providing online performances and videos with no cost to audiences, Ballet Vero Beach is venturing into another new season of innovative presentations, now with tickets available on its website.

The first program in the 2021 season will be in person and online January 15 and 16. Seating at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center will be at 25 percent with very strict guidelines in place for ticket holders, so scroll down to read everything you need to know if you decide to go. One thing to note: Entry to the VBHS Performing Arts center will be granted only to patrons holding tickets for the performance about to take place.

Program 1 will feature a world premiere by Camilo A. Rodriguez set to Beethoven's Piano Trio in B Flat Major, the main stage debut of Rodriguez's playful solo Playing With Strings, the main stage return (after a three year absence) of one of Ballet Vero Beach's most beloved works, The Swan, and the world premiere of an expanded version of Around Midnight by Yanis Eric Pikieris, which previewed last season.
  • Entry to the VBHS Performing Arts center will only be granted to patrons holding tickets for the performance about to take place.
  • Any patron who is feeling ill (regardless of symptoms) should stay home. This includes all symptoms of any illness, not just symptoms associated with COVID-19.
  • Ballet Vero Beach has limited each performance to under 25% of venue capacity.
  • Patrons will be required to wear masks at all times while inside VBHS Performing Arts Center. Masks must fit properly and be worn completely over the nose and mouth at all times even while seated watching the performance. Neck gator style masks are not allowed. Masks will not be provided for patrons by Ballet Vero Beach.
  • Patrons will also be temperature checked prior to entering the building. Those who register above 100 degrees Fahrenheit will not be admitted.
  • Hand Sanitizing Stations will be available throughout the venue.
  • No food or drink is to be brought into the building. Water fountains will not be available.
  • Social Distancing will be strictly enforced in all public spaces and in the auditorium.
  • Seating has been modified so that season subscribers have actual reserved seats. Single ticket buyers are guaranteed general admission to the section purchased. Staff will strictly enforce socially distanced seating measures between parties within each section.
  • Enhanced cleaning protocols will be practiced prior to, and following, each performance.
  • Traffic flow within the venue will be made ‘one way’ to ensure proper patron flow.
  • Whenever possible performances will occur without an intermission and last approximately an hour.
  • Please note that COVID-19 represents a fluid and changing situation. There will be zero tolerance for patrons not abiding by these protocols, and Ballet Vero Beach reserves the right to add additional protocols as necessary.

Event schedules can change, often at almost the last minute. Verify, double check, and then do it again before you head out the door. And when you do go out, take a mask. Without one, you risk being turned away.
