November 2021
A Time for Remembrance
For many, when we think of November, we think of a time of remembrance.

Every year on November 11, since 1931, Canada recognizes the men and women who have served, and continue to serve.

It allows us the opportunity to give thanks to those who have served, allowing us to have a peaceful way of life.

At 1100 hours on November 11th, Canadians took a moment of silence to honour and remember those men and women. On our lapels we wear a poppy with pride to show our support and our respect.

At ExquisiCare, respect is in our core values. On November 11, there is no exception.  It is of the utmost importance that we show our respect to our elders every day.

This year, we were honored to recognize this occasion with our veteran elder, Ed. Ed’s journey of bravery began in 1941 when he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force.  Not only was Ed honoured at our Remembrance Day memorial service at our home, but he was also featured in the Edmonton Journal, on CBC and CTV.

Falls Prevention Month
At ExquisiCare, we take fall prevention seriously. To prevent the fall is to prevent the potential injury. Read our blog for more on fall prevention.

Falls are a part of life and can occur at any given time, from birth into our senior years. However, when a toddler falls, we pick them up, pat them on the bum and smile, then away they go. As we get older, and when we fall, those laughs are soon replaced with concerns and questions to make sure everything is okay. When a senior falls, it can be catastrophic.

In fact, the number one cause of injury in elders is falls. These falls can result not only in minor cuts and bruises but also in hip fractures, or even more seriously, head and brain injuries that can be fatal. Often because of the potential for serious injury, elders tend to avoid activities in fear of a recurring fall.
However, we also acknowledge that sometimes, falls do happen and cannot be prevented. Watch this video from the Injury Prevention Centre of how to get up off the floor after a fall.

Halloween 2021
One of our favorite times of year is Halloween.

The residents enjoyed dressing up and seeing the staff dress up. Even the dogs participated!

To add to the fun, we had a friendly pumpkin painting competition.

Halloween is fun for all ages, and it is a special treat for our elders to hand out candy to the youth of the neighborhood.
