May 2023 newsletter

From the Founder

As I ponder what to share with you this month, I am persuaded to express my gratitude to a few special

people who have recently come aboard to assist with the vision and mission of Dorcas Destiny International. Wow!!!

Our friend and new board member Crandal Rankins has done a tremendous amount of work to put

together our second live fundraiser for Saturday, June 10, 3-7pm at the Mahalia Jackson Court on the south side of Chicago. It should be a nice event with musical entertainment, an art-related silent auction, and just an overall great day! I’m sure we will have some pleasant surprises we hadn’t anticipated!

There were initially many obstacles that made it look like the event would never come to pass, but through continued effort, we have his fraternity brothers involved, members of his family and others who have been so generous to share their resources with Dorcas Destiny International.

I MUST give great and unending praise to our Dr. Briana Miller aka “Bri the OT” (new board member)

who has worked tirelessly for months planning and coordinating our VERY FIRST (annual) Healing Hands Medical Missions trip!!! Her amazing team of health professionals have received an overwhelming

amount of support from their network, family, and friends so they can travel many, many miles to

provide much-needed services and assessments for our women and children in Kenya!

For many of them, this will be their first time traveling outside the country, and they’ve decided to go for Dorcas Destiny International! I am honored!!!

The mini-disc golf game you read about in a previous newsletter drew some attention that has us going into the village prior to our Healing Hands trip with a famous Kenyan disc golfer who will share his skills and expertise with the students at Motivated By Love King’s Academy and Opoya village! It should be an exciting day for them to see a real professional disc golfer in action.

We are looking forward to

identifying some of the athletes we didn’t’ even know we had as he shows them how it’s done and get a chance to be coached by one of the best.

Thanks to our new friend Jeff Titak who made the connection for us after Paul MacBeth Foundation gifted us with a portable basket and discs!

Finally, I have to say thank you to the people who on a consistent monthly basis make sure we have the

funds we need to feed our 600+ children while at school and help meet their other basic needs.

The bible says that when you give to the poor, you lend to the Lord and He will repay (Proverbs 19:17). Many of you have many rewards in heaven for partnering with us to do what we do. God bless and keep you!

Stay tuned for the June newsletter where we will share pics from the disc golf day, and some

preliminary pics from the Healing Hands medical missions’ trip!

As always, blessings on you!! Love and hugs!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PARTICIPATE!!!

Happy Mothers Day!

Here at DDI, we are taking this opportunity to honor and celebrate all the Mother's around the world and specifically the mothers we support and work with.

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring the mothers of the family, or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in our society. Here in the DDI family, mothers have played an important role in ensuring our children are well taken care of and live up to the standards fit for their early development within our rescue centers and DDI-sponsored schools.

Mother's Day is celebrated on different days and ways in many parts of the world and we are appreciating all the mothers in a great way for making DDI work.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY ❤️

Happy Teachers Day!

Happy Teacher's Day to you! Teacher Felicia, teacher Beryl, teacher Sharon, teacher Maryjoy, and teacher John. Your wisdom, dedication, and kindness will always lead our children on the right path and inspire them to be better human beings in the future.

Thank you for being the guide and for inspiring our children at Victory School to do well in their studies We want to celebrate and honor all of you wonderful people for your special contributions in taking our children through their acquisition of knowledge.

Raise the Roof Campaign for Victory!!!

We have our major fundraising campaign this month on the 10th of June 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mahalia Jackson Court at 1 East 79th Street in Chicago IL. We’re calling this fundraising campaign "Raise the Roof!" aiming to generate $70,000 plus for Victory School which is located in Baba-Dogo slum in Nairobi Kenya.

The latest number today is 102 children at Victory; 17 of them are Total Orphans, with another child currently seeking admission to Victory. The total orphans are our children and they don't have anybody but fully depend on us.

Victory School’s current location is nothing that you would ever imagine our children living in because of its placement in a slum, which is not only landlocked (not allowing for expansion), and very deplorable current conditions.

And just as terrible, the current location at Victory School is rented, so at any time, the children, teachers, and staff may face a potential eviction. The school has regularly been moved, they've been displaced, and within the past month, one of the classrooms and sleeping areas have been demolished.

As a remedy, we want to purchase a building and property for Victory, so that we can get the children out of this terribly unstable and unsafe situation.

We found a location which is in an area called Lu Kenya, probably 40 minutes outside of Nairobi. It's a place that has an existing building that we would rehab, and there's land around the building that we want to develop for agriculture, food production, vocational skills-building, security plans, and self-sustainability.
