NOTICE: SVR has been able to have a few Christmas Parties at the Sutter Club in downtown Sacramento. However we no longer have access to the club as our member and Sutter Club member has moved away. I am asking of our SVR membership is there anyone who is currently a member of the Sutter Club and would be willing to "sponsor" us for a SVR Christmas party? All the work of the event will be done by SVR members. If you can help please contact me.

March 2021
Getting back to full strength (almost)
· We welcome Nancy Olson as the new SVR Secretary. Nancy volunteered in February and the board approved her at the March board meeting. Nancy stepped right in and took minutes for the meeting. The March board minutes will appear in the April DRIFTER (essentially reverting back to our old ways of putting the minutes in the issue following the board meeting). The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 6th at 7 pm…….using ZOOM. All SVR members are welcome to attend. Welcome to the board Nancy!!
· We still have several positions looking for volunteers. The Social Director position is available on the board of directors. And we also have the Advertising Chair, Historian, Safety, and Tour Chairs open. Just drop me a line at president@svr-pca.org. And we are looking for a new webmaster to replace Bill Fargo, our interim webmaster.
· You can expect that we will still be using those special PCA COVID waiver forms for awhile. The latest version just came out and it is good thru February 2022.
· Looking for your copy of the February PANORAMA? So was I. Seems that it got mailed out late. Expect to see it in your mailbox the week of March 8th.
· MSR? This is the registration process used by the SVR AX team for signups for each of their autocrosses. It has some nice features that address various COVID issues --- contactless signing (meaning electronic) of release forms being a primary plus. MSR stands for MotorsportReg and can be found at motorsportreg.com
SVR Events
· AX Chair, John Leet, has published the SVR AX schedule for 2021 (with an approved budget).
· There will be an AX School (2 days) in late May. It will have a limited number of students. And due to the COVID restrictions (social distancing for the instructor/student in the car) there will be some slightly different implementation of executing the exercises.
· When will SVR begin presenting events again (other than AX's?). We are continuing to follow the state and county guidelines (tiers, colors, social distancing, crowds, etc.). Suggestions for events are welcome……..just send your suggestions to the president@svr-pca.org and they will be brought up at the April board meeting (and you can do a short presentation as well). The discussion of having a Planning Meeting will also occur at the April board meeting.
National PCA events
· The 65th annual Porsche Parade registration (Phase I) is open and already has over 1000 cars signed up. Info available at www.porscheparade.org
· The PCA Treffen event being held in Scottsdale, Arizona is sold out. They sold out in 26 minutes. I think that is a record. Take note for those of you interested in attending future Treffens.
Porsche Rocklin (previously Niello Porsche)
· I see where the name change is official. Their ad in the DRIFTER has the new name. And when I was out there the other day to pick up some merchandise, the invoice had the new name as well.
Formula E Finally Starts Up
· The first 2 races are in the books (out of 8 for the season). Both races were held on the street circuit in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. This was the first time in the 7 year history of the series that the events were run under the lights.
· Porsche #99, driven by Pascal Wehrlein, was 2nd on the grid in the first race and finished in 5th. He was 17th on the grid in the 2nd race and finished 10th (in the points).
· Porsche #36, driven by Andre Lotterer, was 7th on the grid in the first race and finished 17th. In the second race, he started 24th on the grid (also known as dead last) and finished in 11th, right behind his teammate.
· The next race is in Rome on April 24th --- on CBS Sports. The race is 45 minutes in length plus 1 lap (or until you run out of battery power?).

Ken Shahoian, Membership Director
As we complete two months of 2021, the main questions I receive from the membership have to do with administration—how long have I been a member, I let my membership lapse, National still shows the 1976 911S I sold in 1992 as my current Porsche, can I add a spouse/family member, etc.
Compared to The Olden Days, like when I last served as a region Membership Director over 20 years ago, PCA National has made most functions self-service through the website pca.org.
Let’s take a look at how to get there and do what you want to do. Rest assured, I’m here to handle anything personally if you get stuck.
2. In the upper right, click on Member Log-In.
3. The Sign In fields will appear. Unless you specifically set up a user name, you'll use your email address. If you've been to the site before, you'll have a password established. If not, leave the password blank, and the Password Assistance page should help establish one.
4. Once in, click on your name in the upper right (for me, Welcome Ken).
5. After the screen changes, click on the tab "Edit."
6. Again, a screen change. You will have several options under “Account” and “Membership.” Account having to do with your log in and personal information, Membership is where your co-member is listed, and/or you add or edit your Porsche(s) owned. (A word about co-members below.)
7. Click on “Save.” Very important!
Now, getting back to what I mentioned above would be coming--co-members. Everyone is entitled to add such a member, and it is surprising how few we have. Statistically it runs just over 50% of membership, both in SVR and PCA. As of now, PCA National requests a phone call at (410) 381-0911 to add one. A family member follows the typical definition—spouse, adult child, etc. and an affiliate is any other adult so designated by the primary member.
Hope these tips help to maximize your membership in PCA!

Get Ready for the 2021 Autocross Season
The SVR autocross season is right around the corner! We have had some changes in the schedule, so please refer to our web site for further details: https://svr-pcaor.org/wp/autocross/. Our season kicks off with a two-day event in partnership with Redwood Region on April 17th and 18th. This event is also expected to be part of the Zone 7 Series.
Due to a schedule conflict, we have moved our Autocross School to May 23 (Classroom) and May 29 (Driving). The classroom session will be held at Porsche Rocklin, with tables set up in the service bay to ensure proper social distancing. The driving portion will be at our event location of Thunderhill Raceway. Instruction will be held on Saturday 5/29, with our second autocross event on Sunday 5/30, giving new drivers the opportunity to participate in their first full event if desired.
Car classifications have changed significantly for 2021. Please make sure to refer to the current rules posted on the Zone 7 web site:
The goal of the rule changes was to provide more consistency in progression and condense the groupings to increase the level of competition.
Helmets: The Snell SA2020 model helmets are now available. PCA requirements state that the current and two prior models are acceptable, meaning SA2020, 2015, and 2010 models are required. Please check your rating. SA2005 models will no longer be accepted. Please refer to the PCA Minimum Standards for this and other requirements for autocross participation. https://zone7.pca.org/wp-content/uploads/Autocross-Minimum-Standards-Revised-May-2020.pdf
Autocross is a great opportunity for you to learn car control skills and how to drive your car at its limit in a safe environment. If you are interested in autocross and have any questions, please email autocross@svr-pca.org

PCA National Leadership Updates National Strategic Plan for 2021:
Your PCA National leadership team has worked hard during the pandemic and continues to do the work behind the scenes that keeps are club active and growing. Each year PCA National reviews where it has been, what worked, what has not and where we would like to go as the world’s largest single marque car club. The strategic plan covers many areas of focus including membership marketing, improved resources for our members, an updated website, and continues to bring large scale national events like Parade, Werks Reunion, Tech Tactics, Club Racing, Sim Racing and Treffen.
In the area of membership marketing, PCA membership has recovered from this past spring’s decline and finished 2020 on a positive note. New resources that national has introduced to its members include 1) PCA YouTube, 2) Tech Tactics Live, 3) Appointing a new national PCA Tech Coordinator, 4) adding tech articles to Panorama and 5) Project 964. These initiatives continue the pattern of bringing tech information and resources to our members.
PCA will also be releasing its new and improved website in the spring with a new emphasis on providing an enthusiast extranet focused home page highlighting the Porsche Lifestyle, news and entertainment while offering its members an administrative focused intranet for club functions. The purpose of the extranet focus of the website design is to encourage more visits to our website and potentially more enthusiasts to join the club.
Also part of the updated strategic plan is a renewed emphasis on Region Engagement and Coaching Initiatives that will include focusing on providing assistance to our 146 regions in areas including 1) finance, 2) risk management, 3) updating of bylaws, 4) club elections 5) records retention, and 6) region operations related to supporting website development, social media, newsletter and membership development.
At the recent PCA National Staff meeting held on Zoom, I was very encouraged with the direction our national leadership team is planning for a successful 2021. With 2020 national events being cancelled due to the pandemic, the EC (executive council) is none the less planning its large events with a positive outlook and the hope that with everyone getting the vaccine the nation will finally be getting a handle on the pandemic. With that said, Treffen Scottsdale is looking like it will move forward as well as the Parade at French Lick. The PCA Club racing schedule and West Coast Racing series are open with many more events scheduled in 2021. Good news for all our club racers! National staff takes seriously the safety of our members in everything it plans and have instituted strict guidelines to prevent our members from contracting the disease. Werks Reunion in Monterey that is held in conjunction with Monterey Car Week and the Monterey Historic is being planned but is waiting for more guidance. Porscheplatz and the Porsche Car Corrals that are usually associated with this event as well as the IMSA event in September will be dependent on local conditions as well.
Your National leadership team has been busy planning for events and are looking forward to a great 2021.
Zone 7 Membership Declines in 2020:
Amid the Corona Virus Pandemic membership in Zone 7 for 2020 declined approximately 1% compared to 2019. Comparing membership at the end of December primary membership at the end of 2020 was 6323 versus 6393 in 2019. Bay Area regions saw the most significant declines year over year. On the bright side, several of our smaller regions saw significant increases in membership with Sierra Nevada Region showing 6.45% growth and Yosemite posting a 5.7% growth. Congratulations to the leadership teams at both regions. Nationally, while all other major car clubs in the USA saw declines in membership PCA posted a modest gain of about 1.5% year to date.

|
|
|
Zone 7 Concours and Autocross Series:
The Zone competition series is still in the planning and should be finalized by spring. The regions in Zone 7 that have active autocross programs and sponsor Zone autocross events are awaiting finalized contracts from various venues prior to publicizing a final calendar. Please check for updates on the Zone 7 website ( zone7.pca.org).
The concours series schedule is still in the works and the regional concours chairs with the support of Zone 7 concours chairs Roy Schauben and Simone Kopitzki. Regions have traditionally been dependent on local dealerships for support and event site support. So far, only Sacramento Valley Region has locked down a date with location to be determined.

PCA National Events Upcoming:
Your leadership team at PCA national has been very busy. Last year, national has had to deal with the consequences of Covid 19 on our club’s national events such as club racing where at least 16 events had to be cancelled in addition to Spring Treffen and Parade in Palm Springs. National hopes that their planning for Treffens, Werks Reunion, Parade and a host of other events scheduled for this year can continue as planned. Your national leadership team has been diligent in being flexible and in developing policies and procedures to enable large national events such as Parade to continue, but with a twist. Phase 1 registration for Parade 2021 is open and Treffen Scottsdale will open on February 24th. Treffens have in the past sold out in about an hour so if you have any interest in attending, mark the opening of registration on your calendar.
The winter national staff meeting originally scheduled for February 6th in Jacksonville Florida has been cancelled due to concerns with Covid and instead will be conducted virtually. This meeting gathers all the national committee chairs, Zone Reps, Executive Council members and national headquarter staff to share plans for the year as well as to provide updates on their committee. Updates are generally provided by the chairs of Parade, Treffen, Werks Reunion, Club Racing, Policy, Audit, insurance and social media to name just a few.
Events of Interest:
1) Zone 7 Presidents Meeting, March 13, 2021.
2) PCA Spring Treffen at the Marriott Scottsdale, Arizona;
May 5-9; treffen.pca.org; Registration opens February 24, at 12 noon Pacific Time and sells out very quickly (like in 50 minutes)
3) Loma Prieta Region 50th (plus 1) Anniversary Gala, June 19
4) Porsche Parade at French Lick, Indiana, July 11-17; porscheparade.org
6) Monterey Historic, Porsche Corral August 14-15th
7) PCA Fall Treffen at the American Club, Kohler, Wisconsin, October 3-17; treffen.pca.org
8) PCA Spring Treffen at the BROADMOOR, Colorado Springs, Colorado, April 27-May 1, 2022
9) Monterey Bay Region 60th Anniversary, TBD
9) Sacramento Valley Region 60th Anniversary Celebration, May 7, 2022
Note that past Treffens have sold out in as little as one hour due to their popularity. Registration for the Treffens typically opens 3-4 months prior to the event.
