Dear Friends,
As this new year begins, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the past year, as well as anticipate and look forward into the future. In 2021, Tides started off the year virtually. This was hard for many who craved the face-to-face interaction and support from one another. However, we were able to reach individuals who many not live in the area or found it difficult to attend Tides in person. Through this, moving forward, we are offering virtual meetings for adults in addition to our standard Tides Nights, which I’m happy to share are currently in person.
Also out of the pandemic, it became quite evident the growing demand for grief support in our community. Seeing this need, Tides decided to expand in order to achieve our vision of forming a community of individuals who know they do not need to grieve alone. By adding an additional team member, we are now able to collaborate with our local school districts to bring grief support inside of our schools so we can help support children where they spend most of their day. Tides will provide grief education and guidance sessions to faculty, grief coping tools for school counselors, teachers, students, and family members, and help start and facilitate in-school support groups. We are excited to share that Angie Kempf has joined the Tides team and will be overseeing our new school initiative. You can learn more about Angie below.
As Tides grows to support more individuals in our community, we continue to host peer grief support groups twice a month at Mount Nittany Middle School, offer educational and guidance sessions, provide crisis response support, and offer additional books and resources to provide hope and encouragement to families.
Thank you for your continuous care and support of our programs. Only as a community are we able to support one another to the fullest.
Happy New Year,
Holly
