Bulletin #5
Welcome to Convention 2022
On September 6th an email with an invitation to download the 2022 Convention Event App was sent to registered delegates, speakers and exhibitors.

Please look for an email with the subject line: 2022 UBCM Convention | Welcome to the Event App from this sender: ubcm2022[at]event-emails.com.

This email invitation is unique to each registered participant and includes special login credentials to access the 2022 Event App hosted on the EventMobi Platform. As outlined in Bulletin #4, this email also prompts you to create and complete a personal profile using your own self-edit link.

If you did not receive this email, be sure to check your spam folder first. Alternatively, you are welcome to download the Event App directly by searching for UBCM 2022 in the specific App Store for your smart phone or mobile device. If you have an Android Phone, CLICK or TAP this link. If you have an iPhone or iPad, CLICK or TAP this link.

This year's UBCM Event App was designed primarily for mobile users to download either UBCM’s iOS or Android native apps on their smart phones or tablets. However, you can also view our Universal Web Application and open the 2022 UBCM Event App in a web browser on any device, including laptops and desktops by CLICKING or TAPPING this link.

We strongly recommend that you access the EventMobi Event App Platform in advance of arriving onsite, so you have sufficient time to get familiar with navigating this online space. To save time, you may want to download any relevant documents or trouble-shoot any issues should you experience any technical challenges.

We will be adding finishing touches to our event app platform all week in advance of the Official Convention Kick-Off, next Monday, September 12th.

We’re excited and ready to welcome you!
Digital Convention Program Available

Visit the 2022 Convention page on ubcm.ca where a variety of essential convention documents are available to preview or to download, including the newly published Digital Convention Program

The 2022 Convention page also features links to the Resolutions Book, Annual Report, the Nominating Committee Report and more. These specific documents will also be available through the Event App in an easy-to-navigate flip book format.

In response to strong and continuing feedback from our members to go paperless at Convention, the Resolutions BookPolicy Book 1 as well as Convention Program will no longer be printed. If a paper copy of any of these documents is essential for your personal use, please make arrangements to print a copy prior to coming on-site in Whistler.

The ever-popular, small format Convention Pocket Program makes a welcome return this year and copies will be available in the Registration Area and at the Delegate Services Desk. Just the ideal size to tuck into your pocket or purse, you can preview the 2022 Pocket Program here.
Cabinet Town Halls Return

The Cabinet Town Halls return again this year and are sure to be one of the highlights in the Convention Program. Make plans in your schedule Wednesday afternoon from 3:00pm to 4:15pm, as we are hosting three concurrent sessions to explore three different themes that are timely, relevant, and critically important to local governments.
Minister of Forests, Katrine Conroy and other ministers will discuss Emergency Preparedness. She will be joined by Minister of State for Infrastructure, Bowinn Ma, as well as Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy for TransLink, George Heyman and Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness, Jennifer Rice.

On the next panel, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation and Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing, Murray Rankin, will steer a discussion on Housing with Minister of Finance, Selena Robinson, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Rob Fleming and Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Sheila Malcolmson.

In the third Town Hall, Minister of Health, Adrian Dix will participate on the session on Stronger Public Services with Minister of Citizen Services, Lisa Beare and Minister of Education and Child Care, Jennifer Whiteside.

Please come with your questions. We anticipate an unscripted and lively discussion, allowing for the candid exchange of perspectives. We hope that you will take full advantage of this opportunity to shape discussion on issues that impact your community.
Convention Health & Safety

The health and safety of our delegates, speakers, sponsors, vendors, staff, and venue partners has been at the forefront as we’ve planned for the 2022 UBCM Convention.

To ensure the health and safety of all convention participants, UBCM is committed to following the Province of BC Public Health Officer (PHO) guidelines and adhering to the policies and procedures of the various venues in Whistler.

Staying Covid-19 Safe
In Whistler, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is the official health authority. Anyone with questions about COVID-19 or public health in Whistler is encouraged to consult the Vancouver Coastal Health website.

We ask that all convention attendees be mindful of maintaining space between themselves and others, and to be respectful of the choices of other participants. Everyone is entitled to move forward at their own pace. As provincial restrictions lift, some of us will be taking it slower than others.

As masks are no longer mandatory, delegates should bring their own face coverings if essential for their personal comfort. While face coverings are no longer required in indoor public spaces, businesses, restaurants and at special events, UBCM reception hosts can choose to require masks on their premises or at their own events.

Local Covid-19 Testing
Anyone with health questions or symptoms related to COVID-19 should call 8-1-1 to speak to a health care professional.

The Province has detailed how to get free Rapid Antigen Testing Kits and where test kits are available at local pharmacies, including four Whistler pharmacies. Delegates should be prepared to bring test kits from home or take responsibility to source kits locally during convention week for personal use.

Covid-19 testing is also available, by appointment, at AirWolf Medical next to the Whistler Conference Centre.
Sponsors Shine on the Event App

We are so honoured and fortunate to be able to meet with our sponsors again face to face – for the first time in three years!

With the Event App launching this week – we encourage everyone to please set aside time to visit the online sponsor profiles and review all the wonderful resources these champion supporters have made available for UBCM delegates.

And don’t miss visiting the Sponsor Showcase Exhibits in the Whistler Conference Centre starting Tuesday evening during the UBCM Welcome Reception from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. These 15 very special Sponsor Showcase booths will also be open Wednesday from 7:00am-3:30pm and Thursday 7:00am-12:30pm.

We know you’ll find value in connecting with these organization that have services or products tailored for the local government sector. Stop by to learn about new solutions and effective practices or discover new contacts and explore potential new partnerships to enhance your community.

Here at #UBCM22 we are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive space for all our Delegates. Let's make sure this year's in-person UBCM Convention is a safe and encouraging collaboration space.
