Happy Holidays From Our Home to Yours
It’s been another long and arduous year for many of us. I hope you have found some silver linings here and there. And we’re rooting for a better in 2022!
During this year we have had the opportunity to work with many of you on your underlying health issues, on physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms, on acute illness and injuries, and also with many of you who’ve contracted COVID-19. We have also met new patients with Long COVID-19 symptoms and the challenges that brings.
We’ve had some scary times with patients and some happy times, too. We are over and again impressed by your willingness to make lifestyle changes that lead to better health. We’re inspired by your resilience and determination. We appreciate your trust in us, and are grateful for this work we love, and the opportunity to help when you need it.

We wanted to share a number of short COVID-related articles with you, as we head into the winter months. Some of these you may have seen before, but they bear reviewing:
4. For those of you who want to take a deeper dive into Dr. Herscu’s thinking and writing about epidemics and pandemics, you can sign up to receive those updates, as they are written, here by checking "Epidemic Updates" box. And here’s where you can read archival material on the subject.
Come in if you need a tune-up. Come in if you want to feel better or if you need some actionable approaches to help with your chronic ailments, to support optimal immune function, or to help with energy, mental clarity, or mood. Come in if you need a pep talk. I feel like we all need a pep talk!
We look forward to trying to help.
Here’s to a good enough holiday time, and to a healthy, peaceful new year.

Our 2022 Calendar:
We enjoy making & sharing these, so if you'd like a hard copy of the calendar printed at your local copy store, feel free to print up a few & share with friends. And hopefully, when we have the chance to meet in person again, in our clinic or in a NESH class, we'll have some to share.

What is Long-Haul COVID?
How Naturopathic Medicine Can Help Relieve the Suffering?
|
|
|
According to published reports and patient surveys involving upwards of 50,000 patients, 50% to 80% of those who have had COVID-19 continue to have symptoms three months after the acute ailment, regardless of the severity of the initial infection and well after blood tests show no virus in the system. For others, a wide range of symptoms across physical, cognitive, and emotional landscapes last even longer. Based on the ongoing prevalence of COVID-19 infection, we may well see a multitude of patients suffering from post-COVID-19 symptoms, called Long-Haul COVID-19 or Long COVID, for decades to come.

Cranberry Humus For Your Holiday Gathering?
|
|
|
Sometime over the last few years the whole world of humus has changed. What used to be the Middle Eastern and Greek standard, made with the same few ingredients of chickpeas, tahini, salt, lemon, and olive oil, now comes in so many variations, it’s hard to keep up! Go to any health food store, farmer’s market, or larger grocery store and you can find a raft of different flavored humus from garlic, to olive, to sun-dried tomato. One store-bought hummus I relish is pink from the addition of beets. It looks so pretty on a plate, and I know it’s healthy, too. Chickpeas are high in protein and fiber, tahini packs calcium and healthy oils side by side with the olive oil. It’s a very satisfying snack and pairs well with many salads or main dishes.
I made a few variations on cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving this year. One creation involved pomegranate seeds with orange zest, slowly cooked with raw organic cranberries and a dollop of honey. When I realized I had several small jars of this sauce sitting in my fridge, I had an AHA moment. I like to tie one holiday to the next, bringing the gratitude and love from Thanksgiving into our winter holidays and New Years.

A Tool to Help YOU When You Want to Help Others
There is so much need right now in the world, from food insecurity, to environmental issues, to public health disparities, to the refugee crisis, to the opioid epidemic, and so much more. During this end of the year time, when many of us want to make charitable donations, this tool is helpful to find charities where our resources will do the most good.
Charity Navigator is a charity assessment organization that evaluates hundreds of thousands of charitable organizations based in the United States, operating as a free 501(c)(3) organization. It provides insights into a nonprofit’s financial stability, adherence to best practices for both accountability and transparency, and results reporting. It is the largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities in the United States. It does not accept any advertising or donations from the organizations it evaluates. Check it out when you have a moment and as you are able, if you are so moved, chip in to help others and to support the causes you believe in.
