UM Team COACH Communities of Practice
UM Team COACH is now offering various Communities of Practice for Parenting Program providers! Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs and are currently being offered virtually. If you have any questions, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.

Parent Stressors & Barriers - In this CoP, we will be identifying key stressors and barriers your families may currently be facing, as well as identifying and practicing strategies to solve these barriers. Topics will vary. This CoP will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Click here to sign up!

Creating Support Networks & Community Outreach/Recruitment - In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to create networks of outreach and referrals across parenting providers in the community. You will have the opportunity to get to know other community providers, share information, and support one another. Virtual recruitment will be an ongoing topic. The Advocacy Network on Disabilities Training Opportunities
ACT is on the road again! Our Inclusion Specialists provided the first live/in-person training events in early June. Interested in a live/in-person training at your organization to start Summer Camp off with a bang?

Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids - Learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your summer camp students to build their disability awareness, and encourage them to appreciate differences.
Structures for Success - Youth both with and without disabilities can behave in challenging ways. Learn the 7 basic needs youth exhibit and take away strategies for meeting these needs through positive, preventive approaches. This training is especially relevant to YEN and YAS Providers.

Certification - Car Passenger Safety (CPS) Training, June 22-25
The national standardized child passenger safety technician certification course is four days long (32 hours) and combines classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats and vehicles, and a community safety seat checkup event. At the checkup event, students demonstrate skills learned during class, following event procedures and instructions, proper use and installation of child restraints and safety belts and the ability to teach parents and caregivers how to properly protect their family on the road. Please contact Lyse Deus, 786.301.2116, for exact time frame.

FREE Professional Development Virtual Wellness Summit *
Start planning for a healthy school year now during the Virtual Wellness Summit sponsored by Common Threads. The Wellness Summit is a virtual event that will be held July 13, 14 in partnership with After-School All-Stars, FreshFarm and FoodPrints. It’s a free professional development opportunity for educators (including after-school providers) to learn from experts in different industries how to prioritize health and wellness, both in the classroom and beyond. The goal is to provide attendees training and resources to better implement mindfulness, movement and nutrition education into their curriculum for the benefit of their students to better succeed academically and personally. Topics include Mindfulness in the Classroom, Garden Education, Cooking and Nutrition and Incorporating Movement.
Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Looking for Head Start and Early Head Start Services Vendors *
The Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is soliciting profiles from public or private non-profit organizations, including community-based and faith-based organizations, or for-profit organizations interested in providing Head Start/Early Head Start program services to eligible children and families in Miami-Dade.

This Request for Profile Information will establish a Waiting List of Vendors (List) capable of providing Head Start/Early Head Start Program services for the CAHSD. Placement on this list is not a contract with the county, but an acknowledgement that the organization meets the qualifications in a Request for Profile Information. Tackling the Opioid Crisis in Age of COVID Presentation *
The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, in partnership with Florida Blue, has joined forces with Project Opioid Florida to address the devastating impact of opioid addiction in our community. In 2020 the coronavirus pandemic had an immense impact and accelerated the already rampant opioid crisis in the U.S. at an unfathomable rate. Recent studies have identified a disturbing trend that has emerged in the dramatic and disproportionate rise in overdose deaths among communities of color. For the first time ever, the death toll increased significantly among Black, Hispanic, and other underserved communities having limited access to medical care.

Pubic, business, philanthropic, and government leaders are welcomed to join a presentation and learn how this crisis is affecting our community.
Florida Foster Care Review Needs Volunteers for Citizen Review Panel *
Change the life of a child in foster care. Florida Foster Care Review, which advances the safety, stability and success of abused and neglected children, youth and young adults by connecting them to essential services, healthy relationships and forever families, seeks caring community members to volunteer one weekday a month for a minimum of one year to serve on its Citizen Review Panel (CRP); volunteers must be at least 25 years old. The CRP reviews active, judge-referred child welfare court cases.

Synergy Annual Summer Event from Miami-Dade County Public Schools
The Synergy Annual Summer Event is hosted by Miami-Dade County Public Schools to increase staff capacity and prepare for the coming school year. Synergy also hosts informational and educational sessions for parents via The Parent Academy. This year’s theme is “Synergy 2021 Parents: Strength Reimagined”.
