Journey Through Scripture sermon text
Job 40:1-14
In this week's MR Memoir, Bri Berry shares how the Lord has shown His love for her.

“Your Father cares about every aching detail of your life. Rejoice & be glad in it.” If there is anything that God has been speaking over my soul in the past few months, that’s it. Last summer when we read Gentle & Lowly in my journey group, I wept at chapter 12 where he talks about Jesus as “A Tender Friend.” There’s something so riveting about realizing that in every second of your day and the future to come, God knows and he loves you anyhow. If I’m being honest with myself, that’s what I’ve longed to experience on this side of heaven. If only I would’ve spent less time worrying about what people will think or not think, if people will care, if I will be too much, if I’ll be forgotten, etc. In Christ, none of those worries have a place because He’s there, He’s always been there and He always will be.

Nothing in your life is overlooked. Not the small, not the medium-sized stuff, and not the grand things. Imagine your mundane days holding the same significance as the days filled with grief? To know I serve a God who is capable of a love that is persistent, steady, safe, intuitive, convicting—it’s incomprehensible. And since that idea has clicked, all I want to do is rejoice in who my God is. He is where the joy is and where we can feel whole. Complete and lacking in nothing. Washed in grace, Clothed in hope.

Isaiah 61:9-11 states,
“All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the Lord has blessed.” I delight in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow. so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.”

To God be the glory

Upcoming Spiritual Retreat

Have you ever set aside a few hours just to spend time with the Lord? It is a spiritual discipline that reaps benefits that make the time commitment pale in comparison. Consider taking the opportunity to do that with us on January 29. This is a relaxed time where we gather and receive some guidance and instruction from Andy and then spread out across the church. You and the Lord determine how you spend your time (read, pray, journal, walk). Don’t be intimidated by this time alone with the Lord - you cannot get it wrong. It is your time and we are confident you will find it refreshing, encouraging, and meaningful. Email souten@mitchellroad.org to sign up.
