MEMBER ALERT

Join NFPA and Vote to Protect Remote Testing of Life-Safety Dampers
Dear AMCA Member,

AMCA is seeking support from you and your company regarding an issue of utmost importance to AMCA members who manufacture and sell life-safety dampers.

If you are not already a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), AMCA asks that you register to become one for the purpose of voting to maintain the allowance for remote inspection of life-safety dampers in NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives, and NFPA 105, Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives, during the 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo June 22-25. To be eligible to vote, you must have been an NFPA member for a minimum of 180 days prior to the meeting. The cost for a one-year membership is $175. If you wish to vote virtually (the 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo will be held in Las Vegas), there is expected to be an additional fee of $50.

By avoiding the need to inspect smoke and combination fire/smoke dampers manually, remote testing can save facility owners thousands of dollars in maintenance costs. At the 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo, however, the AMCA Air Control Code Action and Review Committee (ACCARC) is expecting organizations that conduct manual damper inspections to make a motion attempting to lessen or remove provisions allowing remote testing. ACCARC, thus, is seeking support from AMCA members in the form of votes in defense of the remote-inspection provisions.

Requested actions:
