Financial Report and Upcoming Budget

Hello Friends, We finished February 2023 with a $83,959 deficit. Your giving reduced the deficit by $46,587 in March and another $10,460 in April. The current deficit is $26,412 and giving has been strong in May.

I am asking that you prayerfully consider your part in helping the Church close out the fiscal year in the positive. Also, please see attached the proposed budget for 23/24. We will be voting on the budget at the June 11th Voters' Assembly meeting. If you have any questions please stop by the office or give me a call. Brad.Womble@poplc.org

BOSL Nominating Committee

Under the BoSL’s direction and pursuant to Appendix 5.1.2 of PoP’s Governance Policy Manual, the BoSL Nominating Committee was formed and included: Ralph Gillmann, David Leege, Bob Coyle, Chris Martin, and Pastor Michael (ex officio).

Three nominations were received from the congregation and others from the BoSL. The Nominating Committee conferred and prayerfully considered all nominations. After consideration the Committee recommends to the Voters Assembly that Patrick Maloney and Christy Brown be nominated as BoSL members at the Voters Assembly.

The BoSL and the Nominating Committee thank all those who considered nomination for their service to PoP. We look forward to continued service together for Christ.

Vision Team Proposes New Vision Statement! (Voting on June 11)

The Vision Team has written and the Board of Servant Leaders (BoSL) has approved a proposed new vision statement for Prince of Peace. Adopting a new vision statement requires approval by PoP members, so members will vote on it at the upcoming Voter’s Meeting on June 11 at 4:30 pm in the Sanctuary.

The proposed vision statement is as follows: Prince of Peace builds disciples of Jesus who know God, grow together, and serve the world. The Vision Team is now working to refine an expanded explanation of the statement to help in creating a “discipleship pathway,” which is a defined, intentional plan to encourage spiritual growth among all members and attenders of Prince of Peace.

The Vision Team members are: Aivars Baumanis, Abigail Wolfgram, Sara Wilson, Gary Miller, Alex Lillis, Brad Womble, Pastor Michael Hayes, and Jennifer Gross. If you have any questions as you think and pray about your vote on the vision statement, please email Jennifer at jennifergross@outlook.com or any of the Vision Team members.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Salaam Isa Mission

Walking and Talking with Jesus

Sponsored by the Salaam Isa Mission Society

The next session of Walking and Talking with Jesus will be on Wednesday, June 7, at 7 PM on Zoom. The topic will be “God’s People in Society”.

What does it mean to be people of God in the world that God made? The world remains God's possession and we live in relationship with our Creator and our neighbor. We tend both kin and stranger, sick and starving, with compassion. We are attentive to the welfare of the family while we also serve our community and society.

This will be the fifth of 5 sessions. If you have not registered already, you need to register, so the Zoom link can be sent to you. Click HERE to register. You only need to register once for all the sessions. Questions? Contact Greer Putnam: 703-684-8949

The sessions will be led by Pastor Martin (Grace, Woodbridge) or Pastor Triolo (St. Mark’s, Springfield). Each session will be approximately one hour with a 15-minute Biblical framework from Pastor, 15-minute presentation from Yvette Moy, stories from participants and post-meeting fellowship for continued conversation. We will explore Walking and Talking With Jesus through a thematic approach to Christianity compared with Islam and Islamic and Christian practice, culture and theology.

New Women's Sunday Bible Class

“The God Who Sings: Set Free By The Sound” by Denise Siemens. “God has been singing over us since before we were born. This Song is perfect as it is, needing no additional notes, verses, or movements. We are going to learn how to live in harmony with the Song – a place where joy is what powers our existence.” Topics that will be covered include unforgiveness, disappointment with God, and unanswered prayer, to name a few. The book is available on Amazon or can be bought in class. The group meets 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. on Sundays in room 21, and is led by M.E. Sorenson.

Difference Makers Grant At Work!

Love NOVA is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring community partners and local churches together to meet the physical, financial, and relational needs of our neighbors. They used all of the $3,000 Difference Maker grant to hold the Generosity Feeds Project on April 16, 2023, at the Key Middle School, Springfield, VA. There were almost 400 volunteers who packed 21,750 meals to feed people in need! Packed meals were distributed to the following programs: Be The Good Project (homeless feeding program); ALIVE Food bank; Blessings in a Backpack (Route 1); Messiah UMC Weekend Backpack Program; and Koinonia Food Bank. The video of the event can be found below. Thank you Prince of Peace for the generous donation to help feed the hungry!

This constitutes the final update from the awardee who received a Difference Maker grant last fall. As a recap, the following organizations received grants: Tech Fluent, $4,000; LoveNova, $3,000; CruMilitary, $2,500; GMU Inter-Varsity, $2,500; Great Commission, $1,500; and Assistance League, $900.

Thank you Prince of Peace for another successful round of the Difference Maker outreach program. Through your generosity, we were able to touch so many lives with the love of Jesus Christ! (The POP Outreach Team)

Who is this family?

This is the question some people ask when they look through our church directory. When was the last time you updated your information with the church office? We would love to help! Please send us a photo or we are happy to take one of you when you come to church. We also need updated emails, phone numbers, and addresses if those have changed. Thanks for helping keep our information up to date! info@poplc.org

Children Are Welcome in Worship

  1. It's how they meet Jesus. It's how they learn to worship.
  2. Busy Bags with quiet activities are located on hooks outside of the nursery (room 22). Please return them.
  3. We also provide a staffed nursery during worship for infants and toddlers if they need a place and people just for them.
