SDYS Solo Recital

All SDYS students of any level are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity to showcase what piece you've been working on this fall and winter. We hope that this performance opportunity encourages all of our students to continue practicing and playing their instruments while at home.

Playing time should be from 30 seconds - 5 minutes maximum. Please dress nicely; concert black is not necessary. Video instructions and the submission link are on the submission page.

Questions? Email conservatory@sdys.org

***Student videos will be prioritized on a first come, first served basis, and the length of the solo recital will not exceed one hour. If your video is not chosen for the February Solo Recital, please know that there will be a second SDYS Solo Recital in April, 2021.***

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, February 2, 2021
Recital release date: Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 6pm

Zoom Audio: Did you know that you can optimize input for musical instruments on Zoom? These settings remove any choppiness/cuts in the audio caused by echo-cancellation and allow for dynamics to not be altered by the software. Visit this website for step-by-step instructions or view the video below.
*Please note that you will need to update Zoom to the latest version.
Technology Assistance

Please fill out the following form if you have any trouble with your microphone, computer, Zoom, Soundtrap, etc. An SDYS staff member will reach out to you to help resolve your technical issues as soon as possible.

1/7/20 Update

SDYS plans to continue virtual rehearsals while California is under a stay-at-home order. We continue to make plans for a modified return to in-person rehearsals, and will only be able to consider it once San Diego County has returned to the red tier.

Staff continue to work from home and are available via email and phone. Please visit sdys.org/COVID-19 for any new information.
General Information, Other Events, and Opportunities

The Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award

In addition to performing on NPR’s From the Top, recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award receive up to $10,000 to help offset the costs of studying classical music at a high level. Each year, we choose approximately 20 exceptional pre-collegiate musicians ages 8-18 to receive the Award.
