'Tis the Season of Giving

We've survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and now it's GIVING Tuesday!!! In the spirit of Christmas, we give gifts to friends and loved ones which usually means long lists of things to buy. Is a present for Jesus on your list? If not, consider a charitable donation as your gift for the Christ child this year. It's the season of giving and there's no shortage of ways to give...especially with all the extra need created by the pandemic.
Many parishes and organizations are hosting i Give Catholic campaigns today, but there are also Giving Trees, families to adopt and food pantry collections to contribute to this time of year.
The pandemic has made for some real financial hardships for many; if this is your family, consider giving the gift of your time. Many parishes are in need of liturgical ministers to assist at Masses - ushers, greeters, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, cleaners, people to assist with art and environment, as well as many other things. Contact your parish to see how you can assist. This time of year many community organizations are also looking for volunteers. Volunteering can be a wonderful family activity, a beautiful way to spread Christmas cheer and often just as valuable as a monetary gift.
More ways to give the gift of time:
  • volunteer at a food pantry - stocking shelves & sorting food
  • volunteer at a food kitchen - serving a meal
  • raking leaves for an elderly neighbor or family member
  • helping with holiday decorations for elderly neighbor or family member
  • Making cards for nursing home residents.
  • Making phone calls to check on those who are homebound due to the pandemic or age.

How can your family give back this holiday season and be the light of Christ for someone else?
