From the Minister

King's Chapel member Stephen Courtney will preach this Sunday. About his sermon: “Once upon a time, in a world where the past and future danced in a delicate balance, there lived a young dreamer named Jacob. Jacob was a seeker, curious about the mysteries of life and the connections between heaven and earth. One night, as the world slumbered, Jacob found himself enveloped by a profound dream. In his dream, he stood at the threshold of a breathtaking ladder that seemed to bridge the realms of the divine and the earthly. Each rung shimmered with ethereal light, beckoning him to ascend." Parish News and Upcoming Events

BBQ and Farewell to Gretchen

at the Parish House Garden

Thursday, July 27, 6:00- 8:00 PM

Mark your calendars for the next summer BBQ, where we will also say farewell to our beloved Parish Administrator, Gretchen Horton, who is retiring at the end of July. As always, the Fallons will provide food for the grill, along with Bob's grilling talents.

Please choose a side, salad, beverage, or dessert to supply, and let Laura know what you will bring when you RSVP.

King's Chapel Memorial Project in the news

Since early 2023, the History Program has collaborated with journalism students from Boston University to share the ongoing research and work exploring King's Chapel connections with slavery and abolition. They were eager to learn how this information is presented to the public along the Freedom Trail. Working alongside WGBH's professional reporters, their efforts contributed to a comprehensive story covering various sites on the Freedom Trail. The article and accompanying radio piece was released yesterday! The article includes information about the Memorial Project as well as a short video about King's Chapel and the work these students have been doing.

Read the WGBH article here.

Mosaic Workshop

Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 1:00- 3:00 PM at the Parish House

Do you want to create something beautiful? Sign up for a two-part mosaic-making workshop led by our own Emanuel Genovese. You may have seen other mosaics by Emanuel's students decorating the Little Chapel at the Parish House! In this workshop, Emanuel will lead us through the process of designing and creating a mosaic of our own. Please sign up by e-mailing Laura, and don't dally! Slots are limited to 6 students. Lunch will be provided at the first workshop.

Parish House Summer Hours

New summer hours for the Parish House are Tuesday - Thursday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. We can still be reached on our work days via phone and email, but there will not be anyone at the Parish House on Mondays or Fridays.

Sandwich-Makers Needed

Sunday, Aug 6, 10:00- 10:50 AM, at the Parish House

Hands are needed to assemble lunches for Common Cathedral! And all parishioners are invited to attend the service at Brewer Fountain on our days of lunch service. Having lunch and/or attending a service with our unhoused neighbors, 12:30- 2:00 PM, is an incredible blessing, and we would love to have you join us. The next date is Oct 1, followed by a Dec date, possibly the Dec 24 .

If you have a BJ'S or Costco card and could occasionally be a substitute shopper on Thursday or Friday before Common Cathedral, we will provide a list and instructions.

Please contact Carol Genovese if you are interested in signing up to help or want more information.

History Program News

In July we are open to share the chapel with visitors 7 days a week! Our hours are Sunday 1:30-5:00 PM, and Monday- Saturday 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM. (On Tuesdays, History Program closes from 11:15 AM- 1:30 PM for the midday recital, to which all are welcome.) Guided tours continue on their usual schedule and ticket prices, now including Sunday afternoon tours.

Please enjoy July's "Revolutionary King's Chapel" exhibit in the back of the Sanctuary. It shares the experiences of loyalists, patriots, and those caught somewhere in between, during that era of conflict and change.
