Winter Enrichment Classes

Each Thursday, this February and March, we are happy to continue our free one-time enrichment class offerings via Zoom, to further enhance the student and parent experience. Please check out which classes you, your student, and other family members might enjoy attending.

Open to all enrolled students via Zoom- including any enrolled student who has deferred
Day/Time: Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:00 pm
Cost: Free!

  • Mar. 4: Reading Rhythms, for Parents & Guardians 


For parents of students who are in the early stages of reading music. Join Dr. Remson to learn more about how to count, clap, and read basic rhythms to help instill this important skill in your child as they progress. 

  • Mar. 11: Learning to Lyricize 
Open to all SDYS students. Join Mr. Ruben to learn about the important function of lyrics, an introduction to basic forms and rhymes, and create your own lyrics to share by the end of just one class!
March 21 Share-out

SDYS will end the second concert period on Sunday, March 21 at 3pm. We will have a share-out premiere live on YouTube. There will be no rehearsals that weekend.

Please keep your calendars open on 3/21 to honor all our students! The link will be available in the coming weeks.
2021-2022 Registration

Registration for the 2021-2022 season will open on Wednesday, March 17. Please visit our website for more information.
April Solo Recital

We will be having our second solo recital in mid-April! All enrolled SDYS students of any level are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity.

Playing time should be from 30 seconds - 5 minutes maximum. Please dress nicely; concert black is not necessary. Video instructions and the submission link are on the submission page.

Music Pathways - A Panel Discussion

Open to all SDYS Students and Parents!

Curious about where music can take you in the future? Join us for an afternoon chat moderated by Dr. Michael Remson with special guests discussing the different pathways to careers in music. Guests are: 
  • Angelo Arias, SDYS alumnus, Violinist in LaJolla Symphony, Research Scientist
  • Kate Hatmaker, San Diego Symphony violinist, Artistic Director Art of Elan
  • Michael Tagart, SDSU Alumnus, multi-instrumentalist and freelancer, broad experience in education including coaching at numerous school programs and private studio

COVID-19

1/7/21 Update

SDYS plans to continue virtual rehearsals while California is in the purple tier. We continue to make plans for a modified return to in-person rehearsals, and will only be able to consider it once San Diego County has returned to the red tier.

Staff continue to work from home and are available via email and phone. Please visit sdys.org/COVID-19 for any new information.
