Connect More, Achieve More!

Warm greetings to all current and prospective SIGED members!

It is vacation time for many of us and we hope you enjoy your vacations the way you think it is best for you! Remember that coming back soon we will need to intensify our research efforts to meet some conference or other submission deadlines!

Mark August 27 on your calendar and remember to make your submission to our annual International Conference on Information Systems Education and Research (ICISER 2023) before the deadline. You will have the opportunity to present your work in person or online to ICISER 2023 on December 9-10, 2023 in Hyderabad, India in conjunction with ICIS 2023. Visit our website ( https://ais-siged.org/conferences/siged-2023-conference/for more details and important publishing opportunities at ICISER.

August is the month of AMCIS and those of us who will have the chance to attend the SIGED AMCIS 2023 Track: IS in Education, IS Curriculum, Education and Teaching Cases, will get a full verse of interesting topics and presentations. Enjoy the conference everyone and good luck with your presentations.

Coming up in early September, we will be our next exclusive virtual SIGED Community|Workshop: How to complete a good review. In that, the participants will be initiated into the role of the reviewer and will receive important information and guidance from experienced reviewers!

In the current issue of our AIS SIGED Community|Newsletter, the AIS SIGED Community|Connect: Meet our Board section hosts an interview with the President-elect of SIGED, Dr. Rosetta Romano, who shares with us her vision about the future of SIGED.

As the SIGED Board, we hope that you share our enthusiasm about us connecting more and working together to achieve more! We are very excited to see our community becoming more active and connected! Make sure that you do not miss our monthly newsletter so as to be informed about all the SIGED Community|Connect activities which we are planning. We depend on you to support our efforts.

Please keep sending your feedback and suggestions on how to achieve our motto Connect More, Achieve More! to our email, info@ais-siged.org.

Be healthy! Be Happy!

On behalf of the SIGED Board

Vasso Stylianou (President SIGED)

Meet Our Board:

Rosetta Romano

President-Elect 2023

Rosetta Romano is an Assistant Professor of Information Technology & Systems at the University of Canberra, Australia. She uses Design Science Research methodology and ontological analysis methods to study and simplify the rules and requirements found in textual documents such as legislation, standards, and curricula for practitioners.

What should be characterizing the future of IS/IT education?

How we educate is so different from how it was 30, 20, or even ten years ago. Our business is education, and education starts with the educator. The COVID disruption saw the global adoption of online learning delivery in a matter of weeks. Our educators rallied to document their experiences in a flurry of new research papers to help to understand and explain ‘what just happened?’ Responsiveness comes with the turf. Educators are used to dealing with new technology and applications, in different settings, with different expected outcomes and revelations. Bring it on, I say. We are ready for the future of IS/IT education because we are responsive.

What has been your involvement in SIGED?

2023 is my first year on the Board. I was encouraged by 2022 President Associate Professor Blooma John to consider a leadership position with SIGED. This year I am involved with the preparations for the SIGED 2023 conference. I get to work with international colleagues and find that distance is not a barrier to collaborating on ideas for improving the SIGED membership experience.

What is your vision for SIGED as President-elect?

I am using this year to watch how Vasoo Sylianou allows the SIGED Board (encompassing past, present, and emerging members) to introduce new ways of doing things. Let’s call it a responsive way. SIGED has again won another award for a high-performing SIG. Interestingly, many past Board members continue to attend SIGED meetings, a testament to the collegiality of the group who throw ideas into the ring, are happy to discuss the pros and cons and work together to achieve an outcome. Under President Vasso’s calm leadership, the Board is getting things done. For example, this year has seen the release of a monthly newsletter, community workshops, and broader involvement with other global AIS conferences across the globe. My role as President-elect is to support the President and maintain the momentum into next year. My vision is to encourage more AIS educator members to engage with SIGED.

How can someone get involved with SIGED operations?

There are many ways to get involved. Get in touch with any one of the amazing people on the Board. We are all approachable, and we may suggest one of the following ways for you to get involved: consider publishing your research in one of the conferences or tracks/workshops we organize; sign up as a reviewer; participate in the different activities of the SIGED; give us your feedback and suggestions for new initiatives that SIGED can be involved with.

AIS SIGED Community|Workshop: Unlock the Secrets to Success in CAIS-IS/IT Education

The workshop was completed successfully and the members who attended it found it to be most interesting and informative.

If you did not get the chance to attend, you may still view the recording which will be available on our website until September 20, 2023.

The role of information and knowledge is changing in contemporary society, with different requirements regarding the use and development of IS/IT. Besides, it also influences how we educate IS/IT. The double challenge of education of IS and education with IS forms the core of the topics we discuss at the ICISER conference.

The four best papers submitted will be recommended for fast-tracking to the education section of Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). Also, the Best Paper Award will be announced at the conference.

Track 1: Innovative Learning Practices

Track 2: Reshaping Education

Track 3: Cybersecurity and education

Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) 2023

Information Systems Education in a Disruptive World Track

Educators and education systems around the world are re-evaluating the knowledge and skills students need to succeed and lead in a rapidly changing and complex world. To instigate change and innovation, IS educators must continue to embrace the many challenges in order not only to prepare the graduates for the new work opportunities of the digital economy, but also to produce graduates that are knowledgeable, agile, and innovative contributors to the economy and more broadly society.

This track aims to explore new educational models, content, and innovative ways of utilizing technology to stimulate the development of essential skills sought-after in the 21st century so that our IS graduates are job ready and highly employable. This track also aims to explore best practices to equip educators with adaptive and sustainable strategies for curriculum design and pedagogy across a wide variety of delivery modes – face-to-face, online, blended, or hybrid. This track welcomes high-quality submissions employing diverse research methods ranging from papers aimed at improving curriculum, to papers addressing broader economic and societal topics in IS education, as well as best practice teaching cases.
