New Education Initiatives
This fall, the Newport Tree Conservancy has laid the foundation for programs designed to engage Newport youth at multiple age levels. Our goal is to instill a love and knowledge of Newport’s urban forest and dovetail these experiences with service-learning opportunities to plant trees in students’ neighborhoods.

We are thrilled to be hosting programs with all three of Newport's public schools:

  • Pell Elementary School students recently explored Miantonomi Park

  • Thompson Middle School students are embarking on a year-long series of outdoor experiences centered on local trees.

  • Students from Rogers High School’s Newport Project are participating in a series of virtual arboricultural programs with outdoor assignments set to recur through winter and into the spring.

Getting outside to learn in the fresh air has been a highlight for everyone this fall, and we look forward to upcoming school programs across Newport.
Can We Count On Your Support?
Friends, it’s that time of year again, where we must join the chorus of worthy and important organizations asking for your financial support.

Do you believe that Newport would not be the same without its trees?

This year has been a challenge in so many ways and we hope that Newport’s trees have provided some much-needed moments of tranquility to you during this stressful year. Regardless of the new normal we are all still adjusting to, the needs of Newport’s urban forest remain the same.
Thanks to our supporters, we were able to meet all of our goals for 2020:

Purchasing every tree planted on public property in Newport
Subsidizing over 80 trees planted by private citizens
Planting 60 new trees in Miantanomi Park
Preserving the legacies of 20+ historic trees throughout town
Launching education programs at Pell, Thompson, & Rogers

To continue this work we need your support; we cannot plant and care for our shared forest without you. Please consider a contribution to the Newport Tree Conservancy and join us in our mission to plant for the future.
Thank You Volunteers!
Over two beautiful fall days last month, we were joined by a fantastic group of about 60 volunteers of all ages to assist in the continued
re-forestation of Miantonomi Park.

We at the Tree Conservancy are incredibly grateful to all those who have assisted us in this new initiative over the past two years.

Who's That Tree?
Have you encountered a magnificent tree around town and wondered what it might be?

Quincey, a local volunteer and Sydney, our fall intern from Salve Regina are hitting the pavement scouting for notable trees around town that could use a name tag.

These informational tags are just one part of our efforts to connect residents and visitors alike with the trees that make up Newport's city-wide arboretum.
