“Cultivating Kindness, Relationships, and Growth for all.”
News You Can Use: November 5, 2021
Dear CCGS Families,
We had another excellent week of learning. This week Mrs. Anderson and I spent a lot of time in one of our early childhood rooms and it was amazing to watch our youngest learners in school as they have adjusted to the routines and transitions throughout their day. This week, I also got to visit Mrs. Babula's classroom and spent some time watching her students wo have grown immensely on their independence and letter sounds. Watching students learn to read and develop as readers, brings me so much joy! I also had a great time with Mrs. Pynenberg's class at recess. They were so proud of earning their Golden Platter Award. This month is Native American Heritage Month. This month is a time for us to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of Native Americans. Although we focus on being thankful every day, November is typically a month to promote thankfulness and kindness. We will continue to reflect on what we are thankful for each day and are exploring additional ways to show kindness.
- As a reminder next week our Early Childhood and Kindergarten students do not have school on Thursday, November 11th or November 12th. Our 1st-3rd grade students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. on November 11th and do not have school on November 12th to allow for conferences.
Each week I offer a way for you to share a celebration or ask questions on this survey. If you would like a specific reply, please add your name so I can get back to you. If you comment about a specific teacher- I sent this directly to them! These comments have really made their day. This week the following celebrations were provided:
"My student enjoyed the spirit days this week. I was also impressed at how you handled the active shooter drill, especially for the little ones."
"My child’s teacher quick response."
"The practice my son and I have been doing at home to help in math."
"The spirit of the school staff is just amazing! My child is loving school and I owe it to all of your staff for giving it your all 100% of the time. Best experience ever."
For some questions- I forward on to staff to reflect on or create a resource for families, and for others, I will post a reply here. A parent asked what we are doing for math fluency, so i wanted to share this.
In Early Childhood and Kindergarten: Our students are learning how to count and identify numbers fluently. They are also learning how to subitize which is to identify the number of things in a set simply by quickly looking at them—not by counting them one by one.
In first and second grade your student uses Moby Max which is a fluency program that moves through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The log ins will be shared with you at conferences next week so you can also track your child's progress.
In third grade our students are using Xtra Math. This will also be shared at conferences with you. Students are also working through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Each year the time to complete the problem decreases to build fluency.
