Career Development for Mariners

SCI is offering new career development courses for individual mariners at our Houston and Paducah campuses. Because of our extensive database, we can provide a very close, if not identical, simulated environment and vessel match to a students’ own real-world experience.

Advanced Ship Handling (coming soon)
Simulation training and instruction to move from Second Mate to Chief Mate

Bridge Resource Management for Pilots
Personalized pilot training simulated for pilot’s area of expertise, with vessels and high-fidelity current models

“SCI’s Houston site is currently the only facility in North America to house five full-mission simulation bridges. The multi-bridge scenarios foster comprehensive interactions between Tug Captains, Ship Crews, and Pilots, in a highly complex and dynamic environment. It also gives us and our customers more flexibility with scheduling training which at times is last minute. As an example, Houston now can hold a Ship-to-Ship Lightering Course for Mooring Masters and at the same time hold a simulator class for Tug and Barge customers with no reduction in training quality or effectiveness.” − Captain Stephen Polk, Director Center for Maritime Education (CME)

“I am thrilled that Amy has accepted our offer to join the Seamen’s Church Institute. From our earliest meetings, I was impressed by Amy’s warmth, passion, focus and sense of humor. She has a varied background across all areas of development. Add to this, Amy’s familiarity with the Episcopal Church and with seafarer welfare organizations, and you have a person whose experiences and commitments seem tailor-made for SCI."
