Have You Seen Us Around The Neighborhood?
This spring has been eventful as Newport Tree Conservancy Program Director Rachel Holbert has hit the streets of Newport for walking field trips with public school groups.

The neighborhood surrounding Thompson Middle School has been an excellent learning lab for 7th graders studying phenology, including the timing of events such as leaf bud burst and flowering in trees and shrubs.

10th grade students from the East Bay Met School walked to Miantonomi Park to practice scientific skills like measuring species richness of woody plants, as well as discussing the benefits of urban trees for city residents. Keep an eye out for Pell Elementary students out on walking field trips this week!
