As we move into a time of foreboding, a time which may hold true to a very dark winter, I was reminded of a visual which I have watched since we started our online worship. As the Sundays rolled by, there it stands. As we witness the ebb and flow of a turbulent and chaotic society, awash in dissonance and fear, there it stands; resilient, unmoved, a silent witness to The Word. The Word that was in the beginning. Brought forth in the very chaos of creation.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God. The Word was with God in the beginning. All things were created by him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. And the light shines on in the darkness, but the darkness has not mastered it. John 1:1-5
So what is it that so absorbed my attention during these months of watching our online services?
The Flame
Have you watched it?
It always stands
without a waver.
As climate changes
not a move.
As weather rages
not a wisp.
Sermons are received,
the flame holds,
every Sunday.
It mirrors strength.
It does not detract.
Perfection,
being almost invisible.
A silent vigil, steady.
The foundation candle
seems massive,
The flame dwarfed.
It is the Christ candle.
The Flame, as Spirit
lights our way.
Directs our hearts
to The Way.
His Way
Given to you.
Grasp it.
Never
Turn it
Away
