Welcome Back, Minn-Kota!

Your regional team is working hard behind the scenes to make the 2022-2023 the best EVER for our region and our goal of reclaiming "Five Star Region" status starts with YOU - our members and advisors!

Instead of bombarding you with emails - we'll be communicating important updates, reminders, and opportunities using our monthly newsletter. Help us out by reading through the newsletter and engaging with some of the content - click through to our social media (scroll all the way to the bottom), click to visit our sponsors (a HUGE thank you to them!), and register for our upcoming fall leadership conference, "Gone Leader-Fishin'!"

If you ever have questions about Phi Theta Kappa - check first with your advisor! If you're not sure who your advisor is...let us know and we'll connect you! Email Dr. Jamie and she'll make the introduction: jamie.mahlberg@rctc.edu

We're looking forward to seeing many of you in Fargo/Moorhead in October! Have a great fall semester, Minn-Kota!

Meet Your 2022-2023 Regional Officers!

Ferdosi Ahmed

North Hennepin Community College

Phi Xi Chapter

When Ferdosi was young, her family taught her to play the classic Hasbro game, Monopoly. Coming from a family of sales professionals and businesspeople, heated game nights ignited a passion for savvy sales and strategic people management.

More than just a saleswoman and leader, Ferdosi is also a lover of the arts. Her love for communication extends into literature, where she gravitates nonfiction and poetry. Her favorite authors include Vonnegut, Ginsberg, Hughes, and Kaur. Being accepted into North Hennepin Community College came with the added perk of being closer to the Twin Cities, where Ferdosi has been able to enjoy the many galleries, museums, arcades, and exhibitions in the area.

Ashley Nerhus

South Central College

Beta Mu Eta Chapter

From a small town farmer to a rising scholar enrolled in the Pre-Social Work Transfer Pathway Program at South Central Community College in North Mankato, Ashley hails from Minnesota Lake, a small town in southern Minnesota where she found her passion of helping others.

Ashley was nominated into Phi Theta Kappa and was accepted as a member in the Fall of 2021. Early in her membership, she became chapter president of two "sister" chapters at the two campuses of South Central College. Working with her advisor and college president, Ashley helped initiate the process to combine the two chapters and has learned so much about leadership in addition to making friends.

Maple Lassila

Rochester Community and Technical College

Omicron Chapter

Growing up, Maple was always drawn to the natural world and concerned with how we can cooperate to protect our home and leave a legacy for the future. She spends most of her time tutoring for the art department at RCTC where she get to watch students flourish and experiment with how they use art to communicate with the world.

When Maple was introduced to PTK she was immediately drawn to the possibility of holding a leadership position. She is so excited to be taking a role as your Minn-Kota Regional Officer and promises to lead with security, openness, and integrity.

Events will kick-off at 4:30 PM on Friday, 10/7 and will conclude at 2:30 on Sunday, 10/9.
