Meet Our New State Senators: Josh Newman and Dave Min




Arts Orange County and American Federation of Musicians, Local 7, Orange County Musicians Union are collaborating again with Californians for the Arts (CFTA) to offering a free Regional Conversation. This will be an opportunity to meet Orange County's new State Senators, Dave Min (37th District) and Josh Newman (29th District), as well as to get the most up-to-date information on Federal and State arts advocacy and to hear from local leaders on what is going on in our region. Newport Beach City Council Approves Phase VI Civic Center Park Sculpture Selections
Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park - Phase VI Selections
The Newport Beach City Council has approved the recommendations of its City Arts Commission for Phase VI of the Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park. Ten works and three alternates will be installed in June; they will replace the Phase IV exhibition works ending their two-year loans, and will join the ten Phase V works remaining for another year. The selected works above (clockwise) are: "Woodpeckers" by Michael McLaughlin, "Windows" by Chris O'Rourke, "Birdman" by Steven L. Rieman, "Suncrest" by Eino Romppanen, "Scorpion" by Colin Selig, "Migration of My Dreams" by Marisabel Bazan, "Talking Heads" by Oleg Lobykin, "Finish Line" by Ron Whitacre, "(x)ofmanychildren" by Roberto Visani, and "Celestial Carousel" by Adrian Susnea Litman. The ten Phase VI sculptures will be on view through June 2023.

Happy 85th Birthday to the Bowers Museum!

Bowers Museum first opened on February 13, 1936 at just a little over 10,000 square feet. Today, as it approaches its 85th anniversary, the museum campus has expanded to over 100,000 square feet and hosted over 850 exhibitions from all over the world. More here.
TWO STATE ARTS EDUCATION ADVOCACY GROUPS TO MERGE
 
"Building on the longstanding partnership between the California Alliance for Arts Education (the Alliance) and Create CA and our shared mission to make sure that a quality arts education is part of every student's life, we are merging into a new, united organization... [they will] now embark on merger implementation to bring the two organizations together, which will continue through the end of June 2021. [CAAE Executive Director] Tom DeCaigny will lead the organization as executive director. [Create CA Program Director] Pat Wayne will move to a part-time consultant role after merger implementation to aid the transition." More here. 
What will a post-Covid landscape look like for Orange County charitable organizations?

G3X, a lecture series of the Gianneschi Center for Nonprofits at Califfornia State University, Fullerton, will present on Wednesday, February 17, at 2 pm, a free panel discussion with industry leaders in Orange County including Todd Hanson, VP of the Orange County Community Foundation; Rick Stein, President & CEO of ArtsOC; Amanda Green, Organizational Development Services Director for OneOC; Claudia Keller, Chief Mission Officer for Second Harvest Food Bank of OC; and Victoria Torres, Director of Community Impact, Anaheim for the Samueli Foundation and Founding Board Member & Current Board Chair of the Orange County Nonprofit Professionals Network. They will share their vision of a post-COVID world for Orange County organizations based on their knowledge of COVID relief funding and a macro view of the field.
