14 February 2021
O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

We are so glad that you are joining us as we continue to try new ways of worshipping together. As we journey through the cycle of trying something new, listening to and reflecting on our experiences, and adjusting things for a new try, we acknowledge that the changes may cause some confusion and perhaps frustration. We hope that you are still able to find joy in worshipping God in community, and we encourage you to reach out to Rev. D (860-986-3289 or dlittlepage at trinityhartford.org) to share your thoughts and experiences.

Open Forum on Racism in Healthcare
February 21, After the 10 am Service

The COVID-19 pandemic provides a dramatic example of a longstanding problem in American society: racial disparities in health care. Many of us have a general sense that there are unfair differences by race in health care needs, availability, and outcomes. But what are the facts? And what are the experiences of our friends and neighbors?

Please join us after the service on February 21 for a special forum on this important topic. Members of the Trinity Community for Racial Justice will provide facts and figures about the nature and scale of this problem. There will also be an opportunity for participants to share their own lived experience in receiving and providing health care.

Run For Refugees: January 30 – February 14, 2021

Kate and Drew Smith will again be participating in the annual (first-ever virtual) 5K Run for Refugees race sponsored by IRIS (Integrated Refugee Immigration Services.) They are planning to walk this year (Kate with poles) on the afternoon of February 7th. They’ve been practicing walking on their street!

The registration and fund raising for the annual 5k provides refugees and immigrants with vital services such as housing, healthcare, job placement, education, and much more. In 2020, IRIS worked with over 1,500 refugees and immigrants, including assisting Trinity in resettling our Syrian, Afghan and Congolese families.

This event is the main fundraiser for IRIS as they work diligently to help newcomers to our country. To support us, go to Kate’s link: https://runsignup.com/kateanddrew

No amount is too small and the refugees at IRIS thank you!

Cold Snaps Pipe

The cold snap we had a week and half ago resulted in a burst heating pipe in the education wing. Thanks to Vinnie Pacileo and Tom Oberholtzer, a restoration crew was on the scene in less than 2 hours. Remediation is underway and we expect the damaged rooms to be fully functional in about 4 – 6 weeks. What a winter!
Rooted in Hope in a Time of Anxiety: A Day for Laity

Saturday, February 27 from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Are you growing weary of life in “COVID-time?” Would you benefit from a Lenten Retreat?

Join our bishops and laity from across ECCT for a day of spiritual refreshment and learning. Living in the midst of chronic anxiety impacts all of us; our relationships with our children, spouses/partners, family, friends, colleagues, and faith communities. Together we will learn about the predictable ways humans react to chronic anxiety from Dr. David Olsen, a nationally recognized expert on the impact of anxiety on families and churches. We will also explore patterns of behavior that can help alleviate stress and anxiety. Interspersed throughout the day our chaplains from the Bethany House of Prayer will offer opportunities for reflection, meditation, and prayer.

Note: This is a free event open to all laity in ECCT; preregistration is required in order to receive the Zoom link.

Needed for Trinity's Refugee Families

Each year, VITAS, a service of the state Dept. of Revenue services, prepares without charge federal and state income tax returns of low-income taxpayers. However, due to the pandemic, VITAS is closed. Therefore, the Refugee Committee is looking for a parishioner who would be willing, via ZOOM, to help our Syrian and Afghani families prepare their tax returns. There are two filers in one family and one filer in the other. Their returns are simple, but they still need help at this point.

The family is also looking for a used CD player in good condition, for use with English language-learning CDs.
Please contact Anne Rapkin, a.rapkin@snet.net or 860-521-5992 if you are willing to help.

Trinity's Casserole Ministry

Trinity Church is not just a beautiful building; it is a community-a community that reaches out to help parishioners and their families in times of need, such as after surgery, during illness, when a new baby has arrived or a family member has died. Your Casserole Ministry is there to provide prepared meals when meal-preparation is hard to manage.

All of us experience times of hardship when a helping hand is welcome. If you are experiencing such a time and could use help with meals, please contact Anne Rapkin at a.rapkin@snet.net<mailto:a.rapkin@snet.net> or 860-521-5992.

And if you receive a message asking you to participate in the Casserole Ministry, consider that call an opportunity to do Christ's will, by extending love to your sisters and brothers. 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.' Mt 25:40

You are Invited --- Bible Study/Reflection Group - Tuesdays 5:15-6:15

Our group just finished an 8-session reading and reflecting on the Psalms.
You are invited and welcome to join us. We have begun another series reading and reflecting on the Book of the Acts of the Apostles. Acts is written in the form of a history about the growth and change in the Church after Jesus’ Resurrection. It’s filled with stories about Peter and Paul and Dorcas and Lydia and many others.
No prior background or Bible study is required or necessary, just a willing heart and an open mind.
                                      Password: 1898
If you wish to participate, we suggest that you enter the Zoom meeting at 5 PM this Tuesday to get oriented to Zoom and the meeting. You can send your email address to Roy McAlpine to let him know you would like to attend. He will send you the Zoom URL and the reading for the session. Roy’s email is rmcalpine@comcast.net, and cell is 860-338-4525.

Life in the Spirit – Monday Night Book Group

We’d like to invite you to join us in reading and discussing our next book, “Beginning to Pray,” by Metropolitan Anthony Bloom. This straightforward and provocative book is considered one of the spiritual classics of the 20th century. Anthony Bloom, originally from Russia, was a medical doctor in France, and Orthodox monk, priest, and bishop who served the Orthodox community in London, UK.

We meet Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 pm via Zoom, beginning again with our new book on Monday, Feb 1, 2021.

For more information, contact Drew Smith at ktadsmith@comcast.net or 860-331-9021.

Women Together

Women Together begins a 7-week series on February 16th with The Meaning of Mary Magdalene; Discovering the Woman at the Heart of Christianity. The author is Episcopal priest, retreat leader and lecturer Cynthia Bourgeault. The Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schiori describes the book as "a remarkable invitation into the origins and wisdom of Christianity, through the apostolic witness of Mary Magdalene". Women from Trinity, St. Monica's, and St. John's currently participate in WT, and all are welcome to join, whether for this series alone, or longer. Meetings are weekly via Zoom on Tuesdays, from 2:00-3:15 pm. For more information, and to receive a link, please contact Heather Kramer (kramerheather1989@yahoo.com) or Enid Oberholtzer (tomenidjas@aol.com).

Trinity Book Group

“A Perfect Life: A Novel” by Eileen Pollack is the featured work for Trinity book group's meeting on Friday, February 26th. Its main character is a scientist researching a serious genetic disorder affecting herself and her family. The story explores her brilliance and bravery as she confronts her deepest fears and desires, and then comes to accept the inevitable and the unexpected. All are welcome to join in the discussion, which will take place via Zoom from 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Feb. 26th. Contact Mark MacGougan at macgougans@gmail.com to receive a link.
