May 2023

May is Mental Health Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and at the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative, we are dedicated to promoting the holistic well-being of young athletes. We firmly believe that sports can play a transformative role in enhancing their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Throughout this month, we are highlighting the importance of mental health and raising awareness of the resources available to support our athletes. We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment that prioritizes mental health in youth sports.

Join us in spreading awareness and engaging in conversations about mental health within the sports community. Together, we can break the stigma, promote positive mental health practices, and empower our young athletes to thrive on and off the field.

The Philadelphia Coaches Conference

The 2023 Philadelphia Coaches Conference was a success! The event brought together diverse coaches in a dynamic and inspiring environment.

This year PYSC had the fantastic opportunity to be a sponsor and enthusiastic participant. Our presence included hosting an engaging table where we shared information about our Coach Education program and connected with fellow coaches.

Throughout the conference, attendees could network, learn, and exchange insights. Keynote speakers, including leaders from our member organizations Randy Butler from Philadelphia Youth Basketball, Dr. Nikki Franke from Black Women in Sports Foundation, Valencia Peterson from ODAAP, and PYSC board member Tim Massaquoi from The Ladipo Group, delivered powerful presentations covering various coaching topics, including mental health, performance enhancement, and leadership development.

The Philadelphia Coaches Conference exemplified our coaching community's strength and unity. It was a joy to witness the energy and passion in the room as coaches from across the city connected and shared experiences. We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and attendees who contributed to the success of this event. Their dedication and commitment to coaching excellence helped make the conference an enriching and valuable experience.

Aspen Institute's Project Play Summit Celebrates 10 Years

The PYSC team joined hundreds of sport professionals last week for Aspen Institute's Project Play Summit in beautiful Colorado! PYSC made its mark, representing our vibrant sports community from the City of Brotherly Love.

Throughout the summit, our team engaged in inspiring discussions exchanged ideas, and absorbed valuable insights from industry experts. We delved into topics such as the Olympic and Paralympic movement, coach development, and enhancing the overall youth sports experience.

Leaving the summit, we feel more inspired and motivated than ever to continue our mission of transforming youth sports in Philadelphia. The knowledge and connections we gained will fuel our efforts to create lasting change and provide meaningful opportunities for our young athletes.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Aspen Institute for hosting this incredible event. Together, we are making a significant difference in the lives of youth through the power of sports!
