Updates from Jo-Ann Lovejoy
and the Office of Alumni Advancement
~ Special Edition ~
Dear Alumni and Friends,

With a still heavy heart, we again pass along an update on the passing of George Peabody and Jerry Wooding.

As Head of School Dan Scheibe wrote last week:

“As beloved by their families as by generations of Lawrence Academy students and colleagues, George and Jerry’s influence overlapped for decades while together extending over half a century of LA’s history.”

Yes, the loss of these impactful teachers is sobering. However, so many students and families enjoyed their time with Mr. Peabody and Mr. Wooding that their memory should sustain everyone in the LA community who feels their passing so profoundly.

Moreover, their effect on past and future Spartans remains as clear as their portraits that grace the Schoolhouse walls; George oversees “the ramp,” with Jerry watching over Admissions.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful outreach and interest in sending your condolences to the Peabody and Wooding families. We invite you to share your thoughts and condolences via the Lawrence Academy condolence page. The school will gather these heartfelt submissions and present them to the Peabody and Wooding families in an aggregated format representing the entire LA community.

LA is working with George and Jerry’s families on plans for memorial services. We will keep you updated with dates and timing as appropriate.

Here is a link to George Peabody’s obituary. At this time, Jerry Wooding’s obituary has not yet been published. We will share it when it becomes available.

With my sincere condolences to all of you on behalf of Lawrence Academy,

Jo-Ann Lovejoy
Chief Advancement Officer
Mr. Peabody and Mr. Wooding during Founders' Day in 2015 and in 2012, respectively.
