SYEP Celebration

We just wrapped up another successful year of TGP Summer Youth Employment Program! We are so proud of how hard our interns worked and how much they learned. We'd also like to extend a big thanks to all our terrific work sites and funders! Thanks to these partners, 20 Georgetown area high school students had a valuable and meaningful first job experience.

Enjoy this video for a look back at the 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program, produced by 2022 SYEP alumna Julia Nalley.

News from the NEST

TGP NEST Empowerment Center Updates

By Brigid Cooley, NEST Empowerment Center Coordinator

My time here at the NEST has been filled with immense support and love so far. I cannot thank our community of volunteers, donors and supporters enough for making this a smooth transition for me.

I want to especially thank the ladies with the Sun City WHO group for collecting and delivering a generous in-kind donation of food pantry items earlier this month. There were so many snacks and drinks donated that it took four of us multiple trips to bring all the bags inside.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to the 7th grade Girl Scout cadettes from Troupe 2660 who dropped off a dozen or so boxes stuffed to the brim with a variety of Girl Scout cookies. Everything we received this month will be distributed and enjoyed by students in need within our community throughout the remainder of the summer and into the school year. I am so humbled by the acts of kindness I’ve witnessed during the month of July alone.

If anyone is looking for ways to support the NEST as the 2023-24 school year begins, we are especially in need of donations for our hygiene closet, which we use to supply GISD students with basic self-care items and school supplies throughout the year, as well as dinner providers for a handful of open dates in the fall semester.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions, to set up a donation delivery/pickup time or just to simply put a face to the name! I am available 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday for meetings, tours, etc.

The Buzz at Bridges to Growth

TGP Bridges to Growth Updates

By Lexy Largent, Education & Outreach Coordinator

It's been a whirlwind of a summer at Bridges to Growth! We have hosted six fun-filled kids' activities, two weeks of Spanish Kids Club, eight toddler play times, 6 family art activities, and eight parent workshops. We have had a great time, and we couldn't have done it without our wonderful volunteers and partners. Thank you to Georgetown Family YMCA, Georgetown Police Department, Wild Things Zoofari, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Paint with Me Kimberly Keller, TBCH Hope Program, and crafter extraordinaire Courtney Havenwood for sharing your time and expertise with the kids in our community.

Last weekend we partnered with Christ Lutheran Learning Center to host a two day training conference for early childhood educators. Thank you to the wonderful trainers, participants, and volunteers who helped us pull off a fun and enriching weekend, and thanks to Christ Lutheran Learning Center for being such a wonderful partner and Christ Lutheran Church for being such a great host!

We are taking a break from programming for most of August as we pack up and relocate to the new Carver Center for Families. We will see you back in September! For now, take a look at some of the fun we've had this summer!
