The Commerce Chenango staff would like to give A. Wesley Jones, Chief Dispatcher/911 Director for the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department & Norwich Emergency Management Director, a big round of applause for 26 years of service.
Starting in 1995 as an assistant emergency management officer, he worked his way up to the title he holds today. He has helped us through 27 federal disaster declarations for Chenango County. His attributes are many and his resume lists a variety of job talents such as disaster response, recovery and mitigation planning and implementation, development, execution of communications strategy during emergency situations, public assistance recovery, development of annual strategic plans and goals, the research and implementation of current and emerging technologies, 911 trends and more.
Jones's last day is February 26th, although he will be staying with the City and NYSEMA until April 20th. We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor.
The acting supervisor will be George Finch (gfinch@co.chenango.ny.us). George has been with the agency for about 18 years and most recently has been doing 911 addressing training, and many other duties. A permanent appointment will be made pending the results of the civil service test given last month.

Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center is giving you the opportunity to leave your mark at Rogers Center with the start of a Brick Campaign. Friends of Rogers will be dedicating a space near the front of the Visitor Center for Donor Bricks to be placed in the ground in a permanent patio area. This project coincides with the building updates and exhibit updates that will be unveiled in 2021. Community Members Asked to Weigh in on Various Issues
Senator Fred Akshar has released his latest Community Voice Survey online to poll the community on various issues facing constituents across the 52nd Senate District.
Senator Fred Akshar said, “Our Community Voice Surveys are another way for the people I represent to tell me how they feel about pressing issues in our state. With New York facing an over $15 billion deficit. It's more important than ever for our community members to stay engaged, stay informed, and offer feedback to their representatives.”
Survey questions cover a wide array of topics, including rescinding the Governor’s emergency executive powers, continuing to defer rent and eviction during the pandemic, the Governor's proposal to eliminate this year's scheduled $400 million Middle-Class Tax Cut and the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Businesses of under 20 employees receiving an exclusive eligibility period for the Paycheck Protection Program.
Building on a month of strong results, the Biden-Harris Administration and the U.S. Small Business Administration are taking steps with the Paycheck Protection Program to further promote equitable relief for America’s mom-and-pop businesses. The SBA will establish a 14-day, exclusive PPP loan application period for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employees and allow sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals to receive more financial support by revising the PPP’s funding formula for these categories of applicants. The 14-day exclusivity period will start on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 9 a.m.
To that end, during an exclusive two-week period beginning February 24th, the Small Business Administration will not review or accept applications from businesses with more than 20 employees. After 14 days, all qualified businesses can resume applying.
We urge you to complete and submit your PPP loan applications as soon as possible. Submitting materials sooner will help ensure that your application is reviewed earlier. This important program is set to expire at the end of next month and approximately half of the funds allocated are still available. We highly encourage you to take advantage of this benefit, including the opportunity to apply for a second draw loan. See more here.

• Venues are restricted to 50% capacity, with no more than 150 people per event.
• All patrons must be tested prior to the event.
• Sign-in with contact information required to assist with potential contact tracing.
• Venues must notify local health departments of large events, above the social gathering limit, in advance.
• Masks will be required at all times except when seated and eating or drinking.
• Ceremonial and socially-distanced dancing allowed under strict guidelines.

Southern Zone 'Holiday Deer Hunt' Scheduled for December 2021
DEC has adopted a new regulation to establish a "Holiday Deer Hunt" by extending the late bow and muzzleloader hunting seasons for deer from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, in New York's Southern Zone. The new season provides an additional seven days of late-season hunting with bows and muzzleloaders. Read more.

What about commanding Microsoft’s Cortana to speak up and tell you the weather next week for your visit with the grandkids or a meeting out of town?

By 2022, experts estimate that 55% of all U.S. households will have at least one voice assistant smart speaker (with the total number of installed devices estimated to be more than 175 million).
