Message from Cathedral Catholic High School
Dear CCHS Students, Parents, and Employees:

In collaboration with the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University, Cathedral Catholic has committed to a thorough review of school norms, traditions, expectations, and hopes for student success with particular focus on student wellness.  This initiative started before the COVID-19 pandemic; however, in light of the past year, we are convinced that this work is more important than ever.

Our partnership with Stanford will help Cathedral Catholic implement practical, research-based tools, strategies, and possible reforms to create a more balanced and academically fulfilling life for all students.

To learn more about our work, please visit our Challenge Success page on the school website.

Student voice is at the center of our work to challenge traditional ideas about school success.  Cathedral Catholic administered two student surveys this school year.  The first survey collected approximately 1,400 responses and focused on student perspectives on homework, extracurricular activities, free time, sleep, physical health, stress related to school and academics, cheating, academic engagement, teacher support, and parent expectations.  To learn more about our survey results, we invite you to attend a virtual presentation on student wellness by Stanford University leaders on March 29th at 1:00 pm.  A Zoom link to the presentation will be emailed out closer to the date. The presentation will be recorded and shared at a later date if you are unable to attend.
The second student survey collected 1,500 responses where students responded to four prompts:
  • I wish Cathedral Catholic knew …
  • I wish my teachers knew …
  • I wish my parents knew …
  • I wish my peers knew …

A series of "I Wish" videos will be shared with the school community to give you a sampling of student responses.  These videos will be shared in our newsletter and on our social media platforms in the coming weeks.

We will continue to keep you updated on this important work.

Sincerely,

Kevin Calkins, Ph.D
