The COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful and isolating for many people. Gatherings during the upcoming holidays can be an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends. This holiday season, consider how your holiday plans can be modified to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to keep your friends, families, and communities healthy and safe.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR IN-PERSON LEARNING.
  • Due to health/safety concerns, there is no lost-and-found this year.
  • Please make sure all of your child’s belongings are well marked with their name in permanent marker.
  • Any items found in common areas (playground, restrooms, hallways) without a student name clearly marked will be bagged and donated daily.
  • Items of value (cell phones, wallets, eye glasses, etc) will be kept in the main office, please call with a description if your child lost an item of value.
  • Due to Covid19 safety measures, only parents with an appointment will be admitted to come on campus. Please email Office Manager Sarah Franz, sfranz@lfno.org to coordinate any further materials pickups or general questions.

Dismissal
PIKMYKID
Thanks for your patience and perseverance as we all work out the kinks together on this helpful new tool. If you haven’t yet registered, please do so by downloading the PikMyKid app. Once you have done so, it will ask for some quick information to connect you to our school. If you have any problems, please contact either transportation@lfno.org or bbruhnke@lfno.org. If you need some extra information about setting up your PikMyKid app and the PikMyKid features, such as announcing your arrival and making short term changes to your pickup mode, please see this tutorial for parents.
INDEPENDENT WALKERS
For students in grades 3-7 please complete this form and send it to Office Manager Sarah Franz (sfranz@lfno.org) for your child to be added to the independent walkers list. This will allow your child to be dismissed without an adult present by ~ 3:35 daily.

Students in 8th-10th grades are automatically allowed to leave as independent walkers without a parent form on record. If 8th-10th graders go home via carpool or bus, they will remain in their classroom until their name and/or mode of transportation is posted on the PikMyKid screen.

  • Grades 3-5 and 8-10 are dismissed from the Monroe Street door closest to Cohn Street.
  • Grades 6-7 are dismissed through the Monroe Street iron gate closest to Hickory Street.

3rd - 5th Grade
5th Grade Students: Breakthrough New Orleans (BTNOLA)
Students apply to BTNOLA through a comprehensive process and begin their Breakthrough journey the summer before their sixth-grade year. BTNOLA offers a tuition-free, supplementary academic program devoted to preparing middle school students with high potential, but limited resources, for academically rigorous educational experiences in high school and college. By practicing the “Student Teaching Student” model, BTNOLA is also inspiring and training high school and college students to enter the field of education and become advocates for educational equity. BTNOLA’s High School Program offers on-going support to students who completed the middle school program and are dedicated to graduating from college-prep high schools. The application can be assessed on laptops, desktops, and mobile devices. If you need you a paper-version at breakthroughnola@newmanschool.org. The deadline for the application is Sunday, January 10, 2021.For more information about the program, please visit www.btnola.orgCLICK HERE to access the online application.
EXTENDED DAY PROGRAMS
We have researched best practices and after care successes and struggles at other schools during covid-19. We will continue to monitor citywide trends, and continue to ensure our Extended Day practices are in line with Lycée's academic safety protocols. We will reassess in January the extent to which and when we will offer after school programming (after care, enrichment, athletics).
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL
Honor Roll
Kudos to the many students who maintained high grades during the first term of the school year. We will host class-specific honor roll recognition for both in-person and virtual students in January.

Keep up the good work, as this is a tough time for all learners, but we know our LFNO middle and high school students are strong and smart!
