Your Input Matters
Please check your email for the WCA mid-year parent survey sent out on January 6, 2022 and due January 13, 2022. Survey results are carefully reviewed by a committee of administration, teachers, parents, and even a community member and are used to shape practices, identify trends, allocate resources, and set goals. Please take time to participate. Your feedback is important to us!
Meet the Cougar Committee
Meet World Compass Academy's newly elected Cougar Committee. Cougar Committee is WCA's student government. The committee meets at school to discuss issues, problem solve, and organize student events in our middle school. Officers are 6th-8th graders and Cub Council allows our 5th grade representatives an opportunity to have their voices heard. We are excited to see the wonderful things Cougar Committee and the Cub Council does for the students.
Girls Basketball & Cheerleading
Please visit the Middle School Athletics Website for practice and games schedule.
Spelling Bee
The World Compass Academy Spelling Bee was held on January 6, 2022. Congratulations to all of the students who qualified to participate in the Spelling Bee. We are proud of all of our spellers. The winner was a WCA 7th grader, Blake. The runner up was Ryan. Ryan is a 5th grader at WCA. Third place was another 5th grader, William. The winner will compete at the district Spelling Bee at Castle Rock Middle School on Saturday, February 5, 2022. Good Luck!
CogAT Testing
DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February).

2nd Grade Universal Screen
As part of this process, ALL students in 2nd grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of February 7th. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.

Kindergarten/ 1st Grade Gifted Identification Referral Testing
If your child is in K or 1st grade and you believe he/she needs evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.

NOTE: Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification. For any questions or to refer your student, please contact Kate Parker at katherine.parker@worldcompassacademy.com.
WCA Artists
World Compass Academy students had artwork selected for the Colorado Region Scholastic Art Awards. These students now advance to the state-level Scholastic Art competition. The Scholastic Art Awards is only open to 7th-12th graders.

Congratulations to 7th & 8th Graders Elizabeth, Kyleigh, Jayden, and Levi for their technical skill and artistry in the areas of drawing, printmaking, and ceramics. The work of these students is judged alongside 7-12th graders from all over the State of Colorado, with no knowledge by the judges of the grade level, school, or age of the students.

The Colorado Region Art winners will be announced on January 21, 2022. Check coloradoartawards.org for the winners.
