“Cultivating Kindness, Relationships, and Growth for all.”
News You Can Use: February 11, 2022

Dear CCGS Families,
We had another wonderful week of school and this week we celebrated the 100th day of school. The 100th day is an important day in the early elementary world because it marks a point in the year that classes have been counting towards all year long! We had students finding 100 ways to make 100 using all equations, counting by tens, taking 100 steps, and skip counting to 100. We also saw so many creative 100 year old costumes and shirts that had 100 day themes. This week marked a time for reflection and I thought about all of the rainbows I have seen this year. I am so thankful for 100 days of giggles, hugs, kindness, and warmth. I am also for 100 days with a full school of students! This year has brought us many challenges, but it has also brought us 100 days of opportunities for our kids. We are so happy they are here!

Each week I offer a way for you to share a celebration or ask questions on this survey. If you would like a specific reply, please add your name so I can get back to you. If you comment about a specific teacher- I send this directly to them and I know it really brightens their day! This week I was able to share a very sweet and sincere email with a teacher and it made her day!

Speaking of special staff members...
Do you know someone who represents the best of Yorkville CUSD 115?
Nominate them for the Fostering Our Future Award!

The Yorkville 115 community has shown extraordinary grit during the past year. Yorkville 115 staff seamlessly reimagined lessons and prioritized students' social and emotional needs. Yorkville 115 community members created virtual events, organized to help families affected by the pandemic, and created connections outside of school buildings that supported the students and staff working inside them. This connection is the heartbeat of our school district- what it means to be a Yorkville Fox. Every day, this steady pulse runs through the district. The Foundation wants to share the stories of these extraordinary heroes and honor them through Fostering our Future, its district-wide awards ceremony and recognition program.

Click here to learn more & nominate that amazing teacher, community member, or volunteer! Deadline to nominate is 2/25/2022.

Thank you for all of your support!

  • Please send an extra outfit for your child: Even with snowpants many of our students are finding their pants soaked and socks soaked after recess. Please send in an extra pair of clothes (socks included) for your child to keep in his or her locker. Additionally, our nurse is in need of pants for girls and boys size 8-12, If you have any gently used pants we would appreciate them!
  • Behavioral Issues in the Bathroom: We are having some student issues with the group bathrooms that we are hoping you can reinforce with your child at home. Please discuss not putting paper towels in the sinks to overflow them, and not putting toilet paper in urinals and and overabundance of toilet paper in the toilets. We also have students locking the stalls and then crawling under. Anything you can do to reinforce what we are discussing at school would be very welcomed!
  • Kid's Heart Challenge: We are continuing with our kids heart challenge! We have already collected over $2,000 for this important charity.
  • Scholastic Book Fair: Your student will have an opportunity to create a wishlist in school and shop in school on their library day. However, we understand that some families will want to come and shop with their student. If you are interested in shopping after school with your student, please sign up for a timeframe using this link. We are asking for sign ups to prevent a large crowd in the library. All visitors will also need to complete the visitor QR code health screener.
  • Masks: If you want your child to wear a mask all day, please contact his or her teacher so they are aware. Masks are still required on buses to and from school. Please ensure that your child has one with him or her.
  • Car Rider and Walker Reminders: Please have your red or green name showing for pick up time whether a walker or a car rider. K-3 parents, please make a right turn only into the rear lot at the end of the day. Please do not block the driveways on Mill and Orange Street so those families can get out of their driveways.
  • Lost and Found: Is your child missing an item? Have them check the lost and found in the main hallway!
  • Lunch: Students have 3 lunch choices every day. The menu is sent home with every student and is also on the Y115 app. You can also click here to find that!
  • Devices: Please send your child's charger to school each day. It is also the responsibility of the student to charge each night. We have several students coming without charged devices and no way to charge.

Have a great weekend!

5Essentials Parent Survey Reminder
As a parent, you now have an opportunity to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school called the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The 10 minute survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.

The Parent Survey Supplement is now open and will close on March 11, 2022. We need at least 20% of our D115 parents to participate so please complete the survey today!

To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Brent Edwards at [email protected]. Thank you so much for your participation and helping to provide key insights for improvement at your child’s school. Please find more information at Yorkville 5Essentials Parent Survey
Katherine Battersby will be virtually visiting our K-3 students in all Y115 elementary schools on February 11th! She is the author of many adorable picture books as well as a new graphic novel called Cranky Chicken, which will surely cause lots of laughter as kids (and grown-ups!) enjoy this story of a grumpy chicken and the cutest little worm named Speedy! We are so excited for this visit and love that Katherine will be Zooming with us from Canada and sharing stories of her many fascinating jobs which led her to a life of writing, and the experiences she’s had living all over the world. If you would like to order a copy of one of Katherine’s books, please send all orders back to your school library no later than Wednesday, January 19th. We look forward to this exciting day of cranky fun!
This student has been following the four CCGS Cornerstones this week! He will be leading the school in the pledge next week.
Mrs. Lindner's class has been working as a team and showing kindness to others. They were our golden platter winners this week and will get a recess with Mrs. Hamm or Mrs. Anderson next week.

News from Miss Seeman's Classroom
We have had a wonderful week here in first grade! It was so much fun celebrating our 100th day of school on Thursday! We got to imagine what we would look like at 100 years old, build structures out of 100 items, create gumball machines with 100 gumballs, and so much more! It has been so fun learning and growing for 100 days at school!

Our focus in ELA/social studies this week has been about life long ago and today. We were able to explore a “time capsule” of items that were used in schools long ago, and compare them to what we use in schools today. We have also been practicing our spelling words with our play-doh, Wikki Stix, and whiteboards this week! It has also been fun learning about informational writing, and researching animals like penguins and polar bears.

In math, we have been continuing to work on place value and comparing numbers. (Mr. Alligator helped us find and “eat” the bigger numbers.) We have been getting on Dreambox and Moby Max to practice our math strategies and fact fluency. We also love practicing these new skills in our math stations, it is one of our favorite times of the day!

We have been working so hard this year to spread kindness by making new friends, helping others, giving compliments, and sharing smiles. We are so glad to have so many people supporting us like our parents, grandparents, and the teachers and staff here at CCGS. We are excited to keep learning and growing this year!

Love,
Ms. Seeman’s Firsties
